I'm very sorry for your loss, Kristin. Bless you for having the strength to do the right thing. The title of this thread you created pretty much says it all. It's one of the toughest questions to answer. You stepped up and made that tough choice and I know Daisy wanted that from you.
I'm so sorry, Kristin. It is never easy to make that final decision. You did right by your girl. She will be waiting for you happy & healthy at the 'the bridge'.
She started crying when trying to get up or lay down...the vet diagnosed an infection and severe arthritis...her pain and walking don't seem to have improved much.
If anything the walking is worse. She still cries when getting up and down. Once up, she can walk somewhat, but after a minute or so her rear will sag until she has to sit down, which i doubt is a comfortable position either. She has started falling on our 3 very shallow porch steps and if I try to help her, it seems to hurt her worse. Mentally she seems very present, just reluctant to move because of the pain...
I've never had to euthanize a dog before, but I definitely remember the animals that either weren't, or not soon enough...
You saved Daisy from any more Incurable pain, depression, fear, and loss of diginity, by offering up your own anguish & distress in order to take away hers -- This is the difficult meaning AND the dreadful cost of Self-Sacrifice ... As everyone else has already said so well: You gave Daisy the last Great Measure of your LOVE.
I only wish there were some way to make it Hurt US Less, but that Is NEVER Possible -- God bless you, Kristin, until the Big Reunion ... There will be NO Suffering THEN.
