Thanks, One thing I forgot to mention. I kicked the GSD a few times before he nailed me in the arm.
That was a big mistake, he's gotten older but still loves to take the fight to you.
When he was younger the more stick hits he took the more enjoyed it. This dog was not a sport dog, I'm glad I saw the bite coming.
Thanks Bob and everyone else, Please remember the damage these wonderful K-9's can cause. and Learn from my hard lesson!!!

Well Steven, Some things aren't remembered at first when you react without thinking. These two dogs were not playing around and one was going to be hurt bad.
"My wife was getting inbetween the two dogs and the GSD was the closest I could get too."
This was the first time I have ever had to hit with my hand or kick this GSD. You do what you can to protect love ones. This dog is -7- yrs old and quite tough. If he was a Lab or Golden everything would have turned of better.
I see you are a personel trainer. What would you have done if you couldn't have gotten behind my male GSD. I was hoping the kick would get him off the Akita and away from my wife. Thank God she listened too me and moved away.
Just for fun try picking up two 80 pound K-9's off the ground that were fighting. Not many men could do it, but it did seperate the two until we could control them.
"THE MOST IMPORTANT THING TO GAIN FROM ALL THESE POST IS TO READ ED's ARTICLE ON BREAKING UP A DOG FIGHT AND BE PREPARED FOR THE WORSE"
I can see this happen with my two female, though one is a puppy and she stays in the house or crated when the others are in the house. If this ever happen I'll probably be by myself, did the wheel barrel techniques work, grabing the most aggressive dog and pulling it away.
You were dragging the Akita away and the Shepard went around your wife to charge the Akita again?
I'm asking (in hind sight) why did you let go of the Akita? Did you feel the GSD would harm your wife or the Akita who was left vurnerable? And you were protecting your wife and the Akita?? Man there was a lot going on here, you are lucky that more injuries didn't happen. Like both you and your wife dog bitten and one of the dogs serious injuried.
I'm only asking these question trying to improve on your apparent successful stopping of a vicious dog fight. What could you suggest in hind sight?
Besides Ed's door knob/another room solution which sounds brillant, but it probably came from a blood investment like yours. Good job, you survived and petted that Damn dog. You do love your animals, I'd been mad for a week.
Jolly good show
