I feel terrible for all of you! I've never felt anything below maybe 28 degrees, and I nearly froze! I've lived in southern California my whole life so I'm a weenie! My son in law's family lives in Chicago and Michigan so we're hearing how bad it is from them too.
We had -50 (F) wind chills all day today, actual temp -11. In the last 2 weeks, we've had 1 or 2 days above zero.... The entire Christmas Break my kids and dogs were stuck in the house! All of us are ready for school to start back up but it was cancelled for weather today and looking the same for tomorrow. It was so cold this afternoon that Hazard refused to go outside and peed out the door (thank goodness he can aim and the wind was in his favor!)
We got down to 15 below zero last night, with wind chills much lower. Supposed to go up to zero today. In a few days, temps will be above freezing. Can't wait.
I just came in from feeding the horse this morning. I was only out there for maybe fifteen minutes, but by the time I got back to the house, my hands were horribly painful from the cold and my nose felt like it was freezing off my face. I've yet to find gloves that can keep my hands warm in winter.
Those of you who live where this kind of weather is the norm in winter...well, I just don't know how you do it. Those of you who live in California and other temperate regions...well, I am soooo envious!
It was about 2 degrees here this morning. Even the shepherds really don't want to be out for a prolonged period of time. News casts are saying this is record cold and in fact I never it remember it being this brutal and I have lived in the NY-NJ area my entire life.
Well, Connie, should you be feeling homesick, the Boston area had 2 feet of snow a few days ago, below zero temps. Think of that dry ice feeling, and visualize dogs running around like dressage horses. It was in the 50's yesterday, single digits tonight, lots of wind.
It was frigid here again today but the temps got up to 9 f and the snow finally tapered off. Many places around here have been closed due the combination of lots of snow and super cold temps so I've stayed put and have only been outside to feed the sheep, shovel walks and exercise dogs since Sunday. The dogs have actually dealt with the cold quite well. Even at the coldest temps yesterday they played with me outside for 20 min before I took them back in. I think the last time we had this much snow and super cold at the same time was back in the mid 90s.
One on my GSDs only came out of his dog house to eat and crap.
The other goofball never seemd to even notice the change. He was out tossing his kong around in the snow off and on like he does most days.
It's going to be near 50 by Sunday.
