Thanks to all for the feedback. I did not anticipate the sheer volume of responses.
There is so much that speaks (as always) to this point ... "It depends on the dog."
Richard, what is Molly's reaction to the change in beds? There isn't a lot of detail in the O.P., but I was wondering if her familiar bed was in the new open crate?
Molly made the transition very easily to sleeping in the crate. Initially I had her old dog bed in the crate but that bed was too big, so we switched to a new bed properly sized to fit in the crate.
Also, at first we left the door completely off the crate. Now the door is attached but we bungee'd it to stay open (and not rattle). Molly happily and without prompting goes in it anytime we are in the MBR.
Fiona's sleeping arrangements are the bigger concern, but ultimately it is Fiona's aggression toward Molly that we are seeking to deal with. Based on her (slowly changing) behavior issues, she has undoubtedly been or sought to be the boss in her previous homes...
Here is Fiona; she is cute (but no longer allowed on anyone's lap)...

In the crate so I may control every single aspect of my dogs life. You know, because I am the boss of my house. -.-
Some advice: you can be young, sarcastic, or a know-it-all; pick one. Any one of these traits is forgivable. But they make a very unattractive combination.
Boy... if Brianah's response is considered snarky or out of line I'd better mind my P's and Q's around these parts...

Thank you for the words of encouragement. There is A LOT going on behind those eyes... Plotting her little plans of subversion. It's hard to believe how VICIOUS she can get, and I mean VICIOUS towards Molly, and some (but not all?) other dogs, not to mention our poor cat who has been hiding out in the basement since her "Fiona encounter".

That's a TERRIER. They can be conniving little PITA. You found the right place though. Just stick with it and all will be well eventually. Yorkies are such fun little characters once they are given some boundaries.
If you need something light for her to drag around the house I'd get some of the plastic cord used for clotheslines. It doesn't tangle as much. Step on it rather than grabbing if she's in a full run.

During the day, the old Pointers' get the sofas - they used to have a Harry Potter room under the stairs, but recently I decided they have earned more comfort, helps the older ageing bones - the Boerboels sleep on their beds in the kitchen.
When I go to bed, they all get to sleep on the sofas, something I have also done recently, I don't know why really, I think it was when the last chick flew the nest and moved out, it just seemed like they were all so cosy that first evening, I thought 'Why not'?
