We get high 90s w/90+ per cent humidity for days & a week or more at a time during summers in Connecticut. My dogs still spend much of the day outside then & are still ready to go when I am ready to work them. My female will go until she drops if I don't force her to stop.
Search dogs, K9s ext don't get the day off because it's hot & humid.
That's what HIGH drive is. High drive dogs live to work regardless of the weather conditions.
That is what I believe also!!

Like I said have fun, both of you, & take her as far as you can. It is still a learning experience for you & will make you more knowledgee for you to take your next dog farther.
Often a very high drive dog can be a bit too much for a beginner. Their demands can be very time consuming.
I am retired and have nothing but time. LOL! I am high drive and can train whenever!! Hahahahaha!

Hi girls, for your answers. This is very interesting. Frankly I'm very surprised. I certainly do believe that you have morT experience with dogs than I. Here or at least inmy case it doesn't happen like this. I do go for engagement skills, but this I never experienced, although tried. Dopon't we have to respect the dog's natural needs? they search shadow, whenever they can. we, humans, can transpire, dogs cannot. They only can get a certain compensation over their tongue.
Always pleased to hear other opinions and experiences. Thanks!
Candi, our dogs live always outside. It has nothing to do with being accustomed to air-condition. So I simply don't want to break what seems to be for me the natural rhithm of my dogs. And they show this to me. Maybe it is because I have other goals. (74 years). I get up at 3 am in order to walk and train my dogs before the awful heat comes. Nevertheless ~ admiring you all! Thanks for the feedback.

Christina...
As Anne said, a dog with good drives can be put in drive regardless of the heat. My dog awakes from a sound sleep with bright eyes and ears up, ready to spring if I set a foot on the floor. A dog that decides when it wants to work does not have solid drives and may also be lacking in work ethic.
I live in South Louisiana, in the heat and HUMIDITY. Our dogs train any time, day or night. We have to make sure they take breaks in the heat, as they will not stop working on their own.
You must also take into account whether the dog is being properly acclimated. You can't house the dog in air conditioning, then expect it to be enthusiastic about going out into the heat. If you expect a dog to work outdoors during the day, the dog should be spending its time outdoors and not in the AC.
Duane, she's in the Tropics and her dogs live outdoors, IIRC
Carol lives in the tropics?

Candi;
Besides being a direct reply to Carol's query, my post also contains some info that would be helpful to any visitors to the forum. In this day of housepets and fur babies, many owners do not realize what they are asking of their dogs when they take them out of the AC and expect the dogs to work or train. I see dogs at our club that wilt quickly in the heat, and often it is because the dog was inside most of the day, then brought out to the club to train.

Sorry my cyber friend, but since you addressed your direct reply to Christina, my response pertained to her Country of Residence and her Dogs living Outdoors -- No OFFENSE Intended, ol' buddy ... And yes, readers who do not post may also learn a lot from your messages, Duane

I want to add something. If I take her to the beach, she will play in the waves no matter how hot. Ditto if there was another dog she played with. She will play till she drops.
I know, I can hear you say I'm not making it exciting enough.
But what I am talking about is getting the snappy OB I get in the morning.

Candi, what idea! You didn't offend me at all. No one offended me. This was an exchange of convictions. This makes us think and can open our horizon. I can easily live with someone expressing another opinion. The world would be poor without this. I prefer frank and honest opinions and convictions, what I could not stand is if someone were a hypocrite. This did not happen here until now, thanks God.

Christina, that post of mine was in response to our forum friend DUANE, not you -- He had replied to a message from me earlier ... But "no harm / no foul" between any of the contributors on this thread, so it's all GOOD
