Bob...the head of the club told me later that he titles all his dogs over in Germany (which often eludes to the good ole boys at the pub sharing a few) & then brings them here for breeding. Says he makes more $$$ on the pups that way.
Watching the male work that he had just brought over was like watching paint dry. His bark was so slow & without any vigor & ran the blinds like he was half asleep. He stated that this dog was one of the best he had ever imported. Sad,sad example of a GSD. Huge bulky dog, roached back, crippled looking hind end. Not any wonder the dog was slow...was likely in pain & not very fit due to the pain. He stated that he had a very big waiting list for pups. Just sad. I will say that the dogs I met that day had good temperments at least.
Of course he gets more money and the faster the turnover the faster the money rolls in.
Good temperaments probably yes but those dogs will in no way do any more then a nice tempered pet GSD with little drive for work.
The National SV shows I saw at Purina farms were pretty much all the same.
The real laugh was all the owners outside the ring praying that their dogs would eve engage the helper. More then a couple of these SchIII, SchIII dogs actually hesitated to engage and some actually tried to get away from the helper.
I can also say that the helper's work was VERY low key compared to many club helpers in learning will do.
