And it has been said before , but I'll repeat anyway . . . I think you may find that any reputable SAR organization will be and should be highly wary of a dog that has any protection profile put on it . Puts them in a very vulnerable position should said dog get a little too " enthusiastic " over his find .
Providing a "free" service to your clients is not "giving back to the community". It's providing a service to your clients that are paying for a security service.
As to why I'm bothering with "arguing" rather than simply not donating: I value the integrity of the Leerburg community and don't appreciate you showing up to ask for money. Especially since your campaign is misguided at best.
You want to prove me wrong? Do some ACTUAL volunteering in your community with this dog. Your CLIENTS do not count as your community. Come back in a few months with concrete examples of how you are keeping your community safer. And somewhat itemize what you mean by additional training and supplies. I know specialized training can be expensive and pseudo scents can be pricey but I'd like to see more of what you would actually be using the money for.
I see the description at the GoFundMe page has changed again. It now specifically says that he will be doing Narcotics searches in residential communities.
THIS IS NOT VALID.
Unless he is employed by a law enforcement entity that has jurisdiction in the said community AND has a valid search warrant issued by a court having jurisdiction over and serving said community, he can neither conduct a search of the property of a private citizen nor detain any suspect identified during a search by his dog.
He cannot go to any public place, such as a school, gym, or community center, and search the belongings or lockers of private citizens who may be using the public facility. HE CAN be hired by a school system to conduct searches of private property or persons on those school grounds, but he must be vetted by the same process that the school system in question uses to hire private contractors, and this is considered a private enterprise, not community service.
As a private contractor, HE CAN search any private property that the owner contracts him to search, including personal belongings, offices, and lockers of employees. Said employees typically consent to these searches during the hiring phase of their employment, when they sign a disclaimer that the employer provides.
Again, if he is employed by someone to conduct narcotics searches, this is a private enterprise and is not community service.
