I'd do the white-sheet flea test.
I'd also look carefully inside her ears every day, using a flashlight. http://pets.webmd.com/dogs/dog-ear-infections#1
Because otitis can come along with allergies of all types, I make a point with allergic dogs to keep a really close eye on the ears. Catching inflammation and getting to the vet is SO much better in every way than treating a full-blown infection .... or, even worse, repeated infections.
Quote from link above: Dogs can be predisposed to otitis due to the pet's genetic tendency to have a particular type of skin or glands in the canal. Genetics can also influence the thickness of the hair in the canal, and pets with the most hair have the poorest air flow and the greatest incidence of infection. Other dogs are predisposed to develop otitis because they have allergies which make their ears itch and produce more cerumen. Their ears itch, the pet scratches, and infection sets in.
I am extremely sympathetic, having had several allergic dogs.

I believe my female Dobie has developed a CONTACT allergy to GRASS
She began scratching and "fleaing" herself last fall (arm pits & groin area) so I immediately scrutinized her for any signs of external parasites, but found NONE (plus, my male has no fleas, etc.) -- Then we had our wettest winter in decades & the yard turned into a mud-hole, so we spent almost ZERO time out there before late Spring ... During that 6 month period, Adobe QUIT Itching, and her fur grew back where she had previously chewed & clawed it into disappearing
But within the last month of Warm DRY Weather, we have returned to spending quite a bit of time in the yard, and her ITCHINESS has re-surfaced with a VENGENCE, so now she's scratching & fleaing the hair off her legs, chest & throat too
I tried a course of children's liquid Benedryl, to no avail -- I then tried a course of Zrytek tablets @ 10 milligrams twice a day, which didn't work either ... Next I tried a course of adult Benedryl tablets @ 25 milligrams twice daily, which is a LOT of Antihistamine for a 65 pound dog, but they had NO effect whatsoever (not even drowsiness) !!!
SO, before going in for a Vet appointment, I'm seeking folks' experience with itchy-scratchy dogs suffering from the effects of a CONTACT allergen (this is my 1st time having to deal with anything like that) -- Naturally I'm looking for some Simple OTC Solution, but so far my attempts at such have utterly Failed, and poor Adobe can't go on like this ... I'm hoping someone here has had success treating a CONTACT allergy in one of their dogs (???)
The web is full of ads for "Apoquel", but I'm always afraid of Adverse SIDE Effects in any long term Pharmaceutical intervention All opinions & suggestions are WELCOME prior to my seeing the Vet, so THANKS in advance to anyone who replies !!!
UPDATE
1st Derm Vet appointment was Sat.01.July.2017 and here's the long-story-short...
Upon exam & discussion of the history & home treatment, we mutually agreed:
TRIAL course of Apoquel & Ketoconzole & Cefpodoxime & fish oil & shampoo.
1st follow-up appointment will be Sat.05.Aug.2017...
RESULTS so far:
50% Reduction of Itch Response on DAY 1 and she slept Through the Night...
90% Reduction of Itch Response by Day 3 and still sleeping All Night !!!
Observable Side-Effects so far:
Negative -- NONE ... Positive -- Looks & Acts back to NORMAL
We decided on the above course of meds because Adobe was on the verge of scratching & chewing herself raw, plus she had lost 8 POUNDS from the Constant Aggravation 24/7, so we didn't want to take the time right now to do try one or more new antihistamines -- We plan to take her OFF meds after this ONE course & see if that was enough to "break the cycle" by the end of grass pollen season ... If she starts to Flare Up again, we will do one or more Antihistamine trials, before re-considering any longer term use of Apoquel.

THANK you, Cheri It's just so wonderful to have my good ol' Adobe back !!! She has returned to playing with Adonis once again, which he had been missing & didn't understand why Adobe didn't feel like rough-housing while she was itching herself insane -- Plus, I can tell she's already starting to regain her weight, by the fit of her collar ... One thing about this Apoquel is that it IS an INSTANT fix (the Ketoconazole is a preemptive Yeast controler, and the Cefpodoxime is a Precautionary antibiotic, so she'll be OFF both of those already by month's end).
Because we believe the ALLERGEN in question is Grass Pollen which is SEASONAL, our Best Hope is that we will ONLY need to Use Apoquel for a short time, maybe just once a year

Please refresh my memory, Candi. Is this the first year since you adopted Adobe where she has developed allergy symptoms? I'm also wondering how long you've had her and how old she is, if you know. I know it's possible for dogs (and humans, of course) to suddenly develop allergies later in their lives, so I'm just asking out of curiosity.

Yes, allergies are a subject of confounding Mysteries, even to highly experienced professionals (IMHO) -- I adopted Adobe as a rescued stray on 21.June.2014 when she was estimated to be around 24 months of age, making her 5 years old now ... She has never been allergic to anything before this Episode (except for a very localized inflammatory reaction to her spay sutures 3 years ago) and nothing has changed in her daily routine/environment (no new food/treats or bedding or laundry detergent or shampoo, no parasite infestation, no recent vax, no new home furnishings or indoor/outdoor plants, nothing).

P.S. By her 5th DAY on the Apoquel course, Adobe became 100% ITCH-FREE
We HOPE she will ONLY need it for ONE go-round, even if Annually !!!

Adobe is approaching the end of her 2nd week on these three Meds -- She continues to be 100% ITCH-FREE and her hair is almost fully re-grown already !!! Beginning this Saturday, the Apoquel protocol scales back from 2 x Day down to 1 x Day, and she finishes with the preemptive Ketoconazole yeast-controller, then she'll only have 1 more week left on the precautionary Cefpodoxime antibiotic ... Adobe has shown ZERO negative side-effects thus far (not even "pudding poop" from the antibiotic) and I switched her kibble over to the Salmon / Sweet Potato / Pumpkin diet (same Nature's Recipe brand as her previous lamb & rice kibble) which she HOOVERS like a jet-vac, and continues to Regain the Weight she lost while itching day & night for months.
After 30 days of Apoquel on the Once every 24 hours protocol, she will do ONE month on the Maintenance dose of ONCE every 48 hours -- By that time it will be October 1st, and we will take her OFF the drug entirely, to see if Adobe will remain Itch-Free without Apoquel when the GRASS has finished Pollinating around here ... But if she has another Allergy Flare then we will do a Trial Run of one prescription ANTIHISTAMINE (and Maybe a 2nd one IF necessary) to see whether we can find an equally Effective alternate for Apoquel
