I'm getting ready to start my dog on that Osteo Bi-Flex as soon as we run out of the stuff we're already using. I'd be interested in something less costly, but I'm concerned about the purity of the supplements. Can anyone point me to any lab test results on the Synovcare?
Also, about how many doses do you get out of a pound of the Synovcare?
I could not find any lab results, but like GrandFlex (Ed's preferred brand) Synovicare includes only pure ingredients. The complete listing of mgs for Synovicare per 1 oz. dose is as follows:
Glucosamine 9000mg
Chondroitin 3000mg
MSM 4500mg
Devil's Claw 7000mg
Vitamin C 4500mg
Of course you wouldn't give that much to a dog. The reason I chose Synovicare was that GrandFlex isn't available in Canada. I do not want to pay duty and exchange. The ingredients listing is comparable to GrandFlex and since there were many favourable comments about it on the website I thought it would be ok.
Susan, This is not the product I bought. They are very similar in name, but I bought "Synovicare".
L Swanston, I also didn't see Chondroitin on the Grand Flex ingredients list. Based on the dose I'm giving my dog (he's 48lbs.): 1 level tsp. to start. By July 1st he'll be on it for 1 1/2 months so I'll go down to a maintenance dose of 1/2 tsp. I estimate the 1 lb. container will last about 4-5 months.
Been reading up about supplements for my dogs as my great dane/newfoundland cross is now 6 years old. I am a believer in glucosamine as I take it myself and have suffered no wrist pain since I have been taking it. Actually the lady in my local healthstore tells me a lot of people buy it for their old dogs.
Just wondered if you all realised that Hills Science and Royal Canin have this in their complete dog food. Royal Canin have Glucosamine,225mg/kg Chondroitine sulphate 275mg/kg in the food. I don't know the Hills ratios as I don't have a bag of that to hand
Just an update on my dog who has now been on Synovicare for 6 months.
The original 1lb. container I bought for $55 Cdn is still not finished. I estimate about 2 weeks supply left.
At 9 1/2 years old and 48lbs he is looking and acting great. He can still jump a park bench which is about 42 inches, plays 2-toy-fetch with even more gusto, loves his 5 mile walks, etc.
People don't believe his age and I think his activity level and agility are excellent. When many dogs you see over 8 definately are showing their age, I think this type of product combined with a home prepared diet really is a great benefit to the overall health of your dog.
I am really glad I put him on this product. I do believe it is helping him stay active and healthy, and he still shows no sign of stiffness or joint trouble. I did a whistle recall at 100ft. and he just flew towards me, stopped on a dime and sat at front.
I recommend a glucosamine product to anyone who has a senior dog or an active/working dog.
The cost is not prohibative if you buy it from a horse supply store. <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/laugh.gif" alt="" />
