In regards to the start of the thread, I feel with as many White GSDs and genetically flawed colors there's always exceptions to any rule.
Could it be possible to find a good working White GSD, maybe . . . but out of how many?
Since I'm not a sport competitor I don't know all the rules and regulations but I would be interested to see how many were titled in Schutzhund (on a prestigious level), or especially the French Ring, if they were allowed to compete. If there has ever been any titled in these events, my question would arise again, how many?

I’m sorry VanCamp, I did mean to post the source of the information.
The web site is http://www.regalwise.com
I thought it put across some very interesting points.
I would suggest that Brad G should check out the site with regards to his question.
I would appreciate any opinions to this site as I own two White Shepherds and I find them as intelligent if not more so than any German Shepherd I worked in the British Army, but in saying this I have not the same experience as a lot of people on this site with German Shepherds.

I couldn't find anything on titled White GSDs, that's why I mentioned what I did. I hoped a few White GSD people would step forth to mention it.
My suggestion for White GSD people would be to title your dog in sport, whether that be Schutzhund, Ring Sports, other various new dog sports like the PSA. Wouldn't this help prove your point? One or two can't be the result of proof though. There should be a good ten to fifteen to show evidence in my opinion. Also, I'd like to see one title in the KNPV, if that was done on a consistent basis then I couldn't see how people could knock your theory.
I'm sure you could find someone to legitimately give you a fair judging, even if not officially, at least enough to prove your view. I'm sure you could find enough White GSD people to help you as well. That would be something worth trying.

Considering they do not want their White Shepherds associated with the GSD, why would they want to do that Brad? Is there a market for SchH titled white shepherds? NO. Will there ever be? Again NO. SchH isn't easy or cheap to do "to prove a point" not to mention, you can't create what isn't there genetically. They pride themselves on the laid back temperment of the whites.

LoL, well . . . if that's what they want then all the white GSD people have to know that all dogs that they aren't genetically bred to do protection work or police work, can't do it. That's all dogs, whether they be show lines or whatever.
If you can't find any worthy genetic lines to do the work, then they might as well be show lines.
I agree with your point Deanna, but there's a few out there that claim they can do the work, and insist. My point is there going to have to prove it, at least the ones that want to.
It seems to me that if White GSDs are prided on being this way, it's like a show dog person wanting to back the point. Needless to say, 99.999% it won't work. There's no genetic background for it.

People that say white GSDs can do the work, are the same as people that say American line dogs can do the work. . . They just plain don't know what they are talking about. Try going to an ASS specialty and talking to the breeders at the show. Ask them about working ability and their lines. You will get a list of CGCs and other watered down pet games that the AKC offers. But almost every one of those breeders will say that their dogs could do it, but. . .then comes a list of reasons why they don't.
1. I don't agree with "attack dog training"
2. Schutzhund? What's that? (No BS, I've heard that.)
3. I don't have time, we show our dogs.
4. The AKC doesn't allow bitesports.
5. I don't think that kind of life is good for a dog.
6. "Do you think it's right to addict a dog to drugs, so he'll search for them all crazy like that?" (Another true response)
7. No, but I'd like to see one of my dogs do it one day. They are VERY protective and intelligent.
I could go on for ever.
The white shepherds are pets like so many other shepherds out there.
When you don't breed intently for working ability, when you don't continually test for working ability in all of your breeding stock, working ability is lost. It can happen within one or two generations of breeding. . .let alone 25-30 years of breeding that is directed at producing pretty dogs that are laid back, submissive, easy to live with, "nice temperamented", driveless, house pets.
So if you don't see continuous unbroken lines of working dogs you will not see working dogs. If you find one, consider it like winning the lottery. But one or two dogs means nothing for an entire breed.

You're 100% correct VanCamp. I've heard many of those excuses, I personally love the drug one.
I've always tried to keep an open mind when it comes to working dogs. White GSD's aren't piss poor simpley b/c they're white, they're piss poor b/c in a historical context they've been culled from every worthwhile breeding program in the past 100 years. Quite simply, white shepherd breeders breed for color first and everything else second, and that will get you little more than colorful dogs. JMHO.....
You can't breed s#!% to s#!% and get gold.
