Man....Jeanette, you don't miss much, do ya!
He's likely a 25% GSD/ 75% Mal cross. Imported from Holland.
The cross breeding that resulted in him should be copied, as he's an exception work dog. The speed and drive of a great Mal, with the size, strength, and good nerves of a GSD. And oh so serious....
I just can't say enough about how good this dog is.
The dog will be seen in ASR eventually, and would dominate any protection sports that the handler cares to enter - it's that good of a dog!
Breeding him to good working mal bitches down the line and....Ye Haw!
God, I love belonging to this training club - I am a lucky guy!

I owned a Black Mal bitch that was built more like a GSD. Wide back skull, broader, deeper chest and heavier boned than most of the Mals I have seen.
The people I got her from swore she was straight Mal. Her sire is black, imported from Holland and weighed in at 90lbs.
Don't recall the bloodlines.

Kevin, was the Groenendael stud the one that won the object guard championship in the 1990s?

Sweet little Rexum?? What will didn't mention was that this was after weeks without bitework during his "settling in" period. I felt sorry watching Will wince. His arm is too big to slip the suit. Heck of a dog. Gave Will a nice swelling on his forearm. Of course the other dog on that page recently split Will's skin through the suit!

Ummm....I was going to leave out the part about me wincing there, Walt.
Amother difference between this Rex dog and a GSD was its bulldog-like pain threshold. We had it back tied and wearing a leather flat collar. To get the dog to out, if necessary, I simply lean back and since I weight 265 lbs, dogs let go or they choke themselves out. Not Rex, nope, he had obviously seen this trick done in Holland and he *dragged* my huge butt constantly towards him. I've never had a dog do that so strongly for so long. I learn something new everytime I work that beast.
Ironically, the dog had been in the U.S. before, as a police candidate, but bit both the vendor and the officer ( handler aggression over items ) and was returned to Holland. Yes, it was a fair amount of work to fix that problem, but we can't even provoke that behavior any more - good training can overcome most problems.
When he's bred, there are going to be a lot more stressed helpers in this country, let me tell ya.
And the trainers other Mal is no day at the beach, either. He'll be in the top three in the DVG nationals unless something really goes wrong.
I am a very fortunate man to get to work dogs of this caliber.
Oh yeah, Walt's dog spits on me. A lot!

During object guard handler of big dutchy i worked with has to move dog about meter from object and put him in down and only then can he pick up object.
So i guess not letting go was his problem on PH1?
And when that kind of dog takes you down on long attack - men, there is no end to bullying...

A friend that we train with (and I believe he views the board from time to time) has a black Mal cross. I think he's a Mal x Greonendale. Very nice dog.

No dishonor in wincing considering the "love bite" he left on your arm. This guy had a bite wedge in his mouth and squeezed until it was almost flat a few weeks back (Rex, not Will!)
And yes Yogi slobbers a lot!
