If he grows on me, will it be like a fungus??
Speaking of Rottweilers... I PM’d my good buddy VanCamp some time ago asking for help finding a good working home for a pup, but he’s been as much help as last year’s snow... Thanks for nothing, VC . So I’m gonna post it here.
Being a strictly GSD person, I was mightily impressed with a pup owned by my TD. Never seen so much drive even in a Malinut. Put the helper flat on his a$$--at 13 mos! The owner/breeder is a very experienced handler, but she simply cannot handle him physically. Other than in bitework, he is very sweet and handler soft. Good bloodlines from what I understand, but I’m not an expert. I think this dog can go places with a very good handler. I have more info, PM me if you are interested.
Steve, yes it takes quite a bit of patience when handling dobes. They have the energy of a mal, and the stubborness of a rott, and they ALWAYS want to do things their way. And the ones from working lines are super energetic and highly driven, and you have to put a lot of work to contain that drive and keep it under control. Otherwise they're gonna be bouncing off the walls, keeps me busy though

The thing I miss about rotts the most is that you can take your best working rott and maybe win the Club Sieger for best conformation. I really really miss showing good German Rotts in the German Style Show ring here in the U.S. I started with rotts also but moved away from them not for sport but for real work like Police Departments and the military require. GSD's are better athletes and do better in adverse weather than rotts. Also I think GSD's mature faster so you get more "working life" out of the dog. However training the too is very different. GSD's can learn through repetition very well. Rotts will quickly bore and figure out the easiest way to complete a task versus the way you taught them. How many people have had a rott run to the blind witht he decoy versus searching the empty ones. But when rotts learn something it IS LEARNED. Not as much tune up is needed in my experience. However the best rotts I ever had always seem to want to know "Hey whats in this for me"? Where as the best Czech Gsd's I have had basically live to please me and make me happy. GSD's truely are dog designed to serve man.
"If it comes down to me or him........its going to be me every single time"
Poor misunderstood Rottweilers, always being judged by schutzhund standards. I believe if you look at the origins of the Rott schutzhund plays no part in why they came about. I personally believe that you should run to the blind with the man and trash him. Running back and forth like that doesn't make you look cool
Hello Let's see now back in the early days the Rottweiler worked cattle and then carried money around on his neck to protect the money and owner then they worked with the breedto advance the breed 4th breed reconised for police work then the schutzhund sport was used as a determination of correct working abilities the ones that could not do the work did not get used for breeding to start with now the ztpr was used to test UNTRAINED DOGS AND BITCHES OK now who of you would take your untrained dog or bitch and have them tested like this no you train your dogs for the breed test OK now if every breeded of rottweilers would have their dogs and bitches breed tested and not breed them unless they passed we would have a lot less crap running around same as with sheperds and all working breeds
