The APBT is an excellent breed. It is now, like many other breeds, suffering from it's popularity, infamy, and rampant unscrupulous breeders. Well bred Pits have pleasant dispositions toward people, great prey drive, are tough. They are also very trainable because of their desire to please their handler.
This is true. While I have never owned a Pit, I have been around plenty of them. And yes, the well bred pit has a very good disposition and do have a considerable desire to please the handler. I live in the country in TN and I see more stupid ass, redneck, wannabe, backyard breeders who have no clue what they are doing, and they breed these dogs for fighting (Which I am TOTALLY against). I see alot of shitty pits who are bred this way, and are a big liability. This goes back to the "what's popular" thing that was mentioned earlier. People want a pit because they see them in Rap videos. That's horse shit if you ask me...
Sorry, I got a little carried away. But anyway, I am a GSD kind of guy, but I really like pits. I think they are awesome dogs. I know that good game bred pit could excell in a sport like SCH. I have seen pits with considerable amounts of prey and fight drives. I have seen some that are very hard hard dogs and need a VERY strong correction in training. They are also TOUGH AS HELL, MAN! They are one big walking muscle! And talk about a FULL mouth grip!!
My brother has a pit that he rescued(stole)from a dog fighter. My neighborhood is full of the idiots. Rosie is a 35lb, gamebred, Old family red nose. He got her when she was 2, and had already been fought. <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/mad.gif" alt="" /> She is now 6+ and is fully capable to perform the AKC UD routine. My brother knows he will never be able to go in competition with her because of the off leash routines, and the number of dogs in the ring at one time, but she is very controllable around family dogs (with supervision). She's really a sweet dog, ruined by one stupid act.
