Damn, this Max guy was one violent s.o.b. He sounds like a German Shepherd Hitler Hopefully, nobody drowns or shoots their dog, lmao.
Is there any difference between the 1st edition book compared to the reprinted edition now more commonly found for sale ??? (Apart from age that is... Thought I would stop you there Van Camp )
No, there is no difference between the reprint and the 2nd ddition. (the 1925 US version that you can find pretty easy either old or new)
There are like three other versions.
One is a later version called the deluxe edition. This was put together here in the US. I have yet to see one of these copies. But it has a lot more pictures in it, although I don't know of what. They are not more pictures taken from the author's photo library according to the book dealer I talked to once upon a time. I think they are added photos from competitions or breed books. (i.e. a lot of dogs stacked from shots over the years in both the US and Germany)
The other, I think, is the first translation to English. It was redone the first year the book was in print, they are rare and not really of much more use than the copy most people have.
The third, the true "First Edition" is the original text written in German. I actually don't know how many versions of the German text there are, but there are more than one.
The impulse for work is born in our dogs. This does not mean that they have recognised work as a moral duty - with how many men this also not the case can be seen in a terrible and disastrous way today. How then shall we produce that in dogs which is so often absent in man who stands higher in the scale?
The shepherd dog wishes to work, not for works sake, but because it affords him the opportunity for living out his life.
Meghan, Yes, Timid now (NO) after 2 weeks of my training the 10 month old is not Timid anymore, that's why the person that gave her to me is helping me train her for Schutzhund. I said in an earler post "Never Give Up".......I treat a animal (any kind) with respect and love and they show me back the same. And they understand with repect back who's the boss. Wolf Wolf........
Lets change this a bit to Quotes from Max's contemporaries.
