My GSD is now 11 months. He's from the pound, so they neutered him before I could adopt him. He was 15 weeks when this was done.
He has pretty close to zero aggression. However, he is starting to develop some protectiveness of our home and his "pack". He's okay if people are just walking past the house-he'll watch alertly. If people stop and loiter, or are walking by but being loud or horsing around - he'll bark at them. At 85 pounds, he's pretty intimidating looking.
Also, this weekend we went camping in the desert and took him with us. He was staked out near our tent. He started barking when a stranger walked up to our campsite.
Considering that it's been 7 months since he's been neutered, I don't think this new developing protectiveness is hormone related. He's a sweetheart, so I don't think he's going to develop any full blown aggression as he gets older-especially as he's de-nutted.
Will, I did say seldome. We all know there are some dogs <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/laugh.gif" alt="" /> that are bad to the bone from the git go. Any particular dog come to mind for you? <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/laugh.gif" alt="" /> <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/laugh.gif" alt="" />
Originally posted by Old earth dog Bob Scott: David, your pup is nine months old. He should still be friendly at this age. I have a 7.5 months old pup out of Pohranichni Straze. By no means is he friendly. Anyone, other than me and my wife try to approach, he is ready to tear you up.
I am not happy, but I guess the aluff/suspicious side is coming out of him.
I do agree of not 'fixing' males, as hormones do contribute to the overall development.
Well Stubby was just neutered at 3 years old. Everyone told me to get him nuetered earlier, he won't be aggressive, he will settle down and not be so hyper blah blah blah. I waited because I WANTED him to develope to his full potential. I beleive if you can't handle a dog, then you should not have him. Stubby has developed very good secondary sex characteristics, has good drive and is protective to just the right point. Training really has alot to do with it. I would say wait to get him nuetered, but that is just my opinion.
