Gerard,Nitrafurizone(spelling off)..in cream form is a wonderful topical..anti-bacterial ointment. There are powder forms as well..with "fillers"It is not a cure all as there are many types of bacterias.I always keep a jar of the cream formula..that I purchase through a feed store..etc for horses.
i would just add that some humans do have reactions to nitrofurazone. i've used it for years on all kinds of animals.....best results on dogs and horses. i've never had a reaction to it, but then i rarely do with anything. if you have sensitive skin, i would suggest using latex gloves if you are handling the salve. i don't believe that would be necessary if using the puffer bottle (powder) and that is what i would recommend for using in dogs' ears.
if there are no dogs in heaven, then when i die i want to go where they went. ---will rogers
