we see this at the kennel a lot. I see a percntage of the dogs on good food have allergys and are super hyper. then you see ol roy dogs at 15 and you would of though they were 8. I used to be a food snob but its went away. I wish some independant research company would come out and figure out whats up. I know that so many times people call with behavioral problems and I know that dog is eating the high speed eukanuba. If anyone ever figures it out I will be amazed.
I am smarter than my dog, your just not. |

At least I am not the only one here, he is 14 mos old, 28.25" at the shoulders and about 105 lbs. He is not "packing it on" really, still actually sort of lanky & gangly, but at this age I would be a little nervous if he was gaining too much. He is just big boned, big headed, bone and muscle from running alot & chasing kids. I can't complain a bit. Pretty large for a GSD though, but hasn't seemed to lose any agility, still enters my Cherokee by jumping through the passengerside window like it is nothing. More guts than I'd have, the window is not that big.

I personally don't feed real bones to any dog that has adult teeth, I have seen too many broken/shattered/chipped teeth from knawing on real bones. Teeth are too expensive to fix, and they are needed for the work I do with the dogs - so the only dogs I give real bones to is puppies who still have puppy teeth, if they break them that's ok they will replace them. Adult teeth are irreplaceable, so no real bones for my dogs!

You've SEEN dogs break teeth on raw bones?
I haven't, not ever. I've seen them break teeth chewing on rocks before.

I give my dogs raw soup bones all the time and never had a problem with breaking a tooth. If anything I believe that their teeth are cleaner from chewing on them.
As for the dog food question, I feed my dogs Exceed from Sam's Club (20.00 a bag). They have no problems with stools and still have a lot of energy. They have different "flavors" and I use the Chicken.

I switched my collies to Wellness a while ago and they really like it. Their meals consist of either a mixture of dry and canned Wellness with fresh carrot slices or a mixture of frozen warmed peas and carrots on top, dry dogfood with a home cooked chicken stew I make for them (deboned chicken, carrots, peas, corn, green beans, chicken broth), or dry Wellness with fresh sliced carrots and apple on top with some chicken or beef broth. I also bake them dog biscuits with natural grains and flours. I admit I love to cook and bake, so it isn't a chore. I also know my collies are getting good food- not animal by- products and all the other horrible things (such as rendered euthanized pets and diseased zoo animals) that go into many commerical dog foods.

I really like Innova. I think Natura (Makers of Innova) is a great company that always supports it's product.
I've also had great luck with the chicken soup brand.
Recently however I've discovered Timberwolf Organics. Apparently their kibble has MUCH less grain than most of the other super premium kibbles, around 24% as opposed to close to 40%.

Has anyone used Nutro Natural Choice Ultra?
I have my 15y/o beagle and 3y/o Golden on it. The beagle will eat anything but I'd prefer a good food for the Golden since he tends to have allergies. He liked the Chicken Soup & Wellness brands however, I have a friend who insists that this new Ultra brand is the best on the market now. (She has 2 Irish Wolfhounds and said they are healthier than they've ever been.) I have read Ultra's ingredients and actually liked the ones in Wellness better, but who knows if Blueberries and Sweet Potatos are really needed or just make it sound fancy.
Any feedback is appreciated. Thanks all!

I feed 40 working dogs Nutro. I've found it to be a good food. The coats and skin are always good and the dogs have all the energy they seem to need.
