Thank you for your advice. I was hoping to get a puppy from two registered parents. An hopefully, I would know who the parents are. Not that I'm fimilar with lineage, but there would be answerable question with papered parents. Do you know if this combination of Shepherd and Rott is a good mix? Why don't more people breed them. They are good looking dogs with good confirmation. At least to my eyes. Thanx, Kitty

Not sure about the choice of keeping 2 puppies outside is the best because the owner is unwilling to train them to be in the house with their 2 year old child. I have 3 dogs, 2 GSD's and a Lab and they are fine around small children because I took the responsiblity to teach them to be so.
Also, Ed doesn't recommend getting 2 puppies from the same litter because it can be so difficult for experienced dog owners let alone a novice, and I tend to agree with him http://www.leerburg.com/2dogs.htm Is there a possibility of returning one of the pups to the breeder so you can spend the time necessary to make the remaining puppy a member of your family?
As far as someone actively breeding Rottie/GSD mixes........... With all the purebred GSD and purebred Rotties being abandoned in shelters and in rescues, breeding a mix would be irresponsible in my opinion. So I agree with the others that say just go with a rescue group or contact your shelter so they can contact you when a pup comes in from an irresponsible/accidental breeding in your area.

Whenever a friend is getting a dog, I always suggest they try a rescue. That being said, when i needed a better idea of what my puppy was gonna grow up to be, I bought a purebred. There are hundreds of recognized breeds out there, I'm sure you can come up with one you like without creating more mutts.

Hello, Still looking for a G. Shepherd Rott cross pup, from good parents. And, as always, looking for information on this cross. If any of you have ever had this cross. Do any of you have puppies come up that are of this cross? Thnx, Kitty

No one will waste a good dog on making such a cross.

Kitty, I feel for your loss of a good dog. We've all been there to many times. However, trying to replace a special dog, wether it's a purebred, crossbred or mutt is an act in futility. Even with the same two parents, you'll never get "that" dog again. All it will do is cause frustration and dissapointment. Get a new pup, enjoy it for the pup IT is, and don't try to compaire it with one gone. It NEVER works.

I think Bob is right. If you get an exact replica of your last dog you will have nothing new to learn. I felt the same as you when my dog died.I did find a similar mix at the same shelter. He wasn't the same. Just some similarities. My new dog is a new adventure in temperment and the longer we are together the more I love the differences.Go to the shelter and hang out with the dogs. Take your time and you will see some of your last dog in one of the dogs there. Look for the traits not necessarily the exact breed. You'll know. The dog you need next will teach you some new things about dogs and a new kind of love. Our old friends can never be replaced, they are just too special. Good luck.

Thankx, Of course you are all right. I am trying to recover a best friend that I lost. Even tho I know this, I still presist. Kind of dumb. I just don't want to let go of my great dog, that I loved so much. I don't think I'll ever find another one that I feel so connected to. Not only did he know my every move and word, he saved my life. It's been over a few months now. I wish my heart would heal. I've had alot of dogs in my life, but none so close to me. He was just such a perfect dog for me, and I was such a perfect master for him. Kitty, I really understand what you are saying here. It was the same with Ki and myself. He was perfect for me in everyway. I could go on and on. The thing here is that it wasn't meant to last. Nothing here on earth is. I think Ki brought that home to me in a way I could understand finally. Surrendering, letting go, is one of the great lessons in our lives. You have been very lucky, blessed really. Most people who own a dog will never get to understand like you do what a dog can be in your life. I am really glad for you. Don't be in a hurry for your heart to heal. My grieving for Ki helped me to let go of alot of unexpressed emotion I had been holding in myself for a long time. I considered it his last gift to me. He also saved me a long time ago. And as I like to observe, "Dogs are Gods", and there is another one waiting in the wings. Good luck,
