Jerry thanks for mentioning the lab. I am going to spend some time with the Malinois girl this week. We have been approved to adopt her. So far my husband has spent time with her and I have not since I am in another state. To make a long story short we sold out house in NY and moved to SC. He went back to NY to look for Riot. I will be going back in the morning.
Jenn I read through the Malinois rescue links before. Unfortunately I can't get in touch with Kathy from ResQ Belgians. She lives close to where I lived in NY. I called and e-mailed her about Riot and I haven't heard a word. I hope she's okay.
I have good feelings about the shelter Mal. I'll know more when I meet her. I'll keep everyone posted once I return home. If I'm really lucky I'll come home with two: her and Riot. I couldn't wish for more. When my husband first told me about her a named popped into my head immediately and I don't know why. I thought of the name Veta for her. I looked up the name tonight and it means 'life'. Pretty neat I think.
We adopted the Mal. She's totally opposite from what Riot was like. She shows very little prey drive and she's not hyper, not my Mal of choice but she needed us so we decided to give her a chance for a good life. My GSD took to her within minutes which is very strange for her. The Mal 'needed' her too. You can see she had a dog buddy at one time. I can't believe how she has brought my GSD back to the bouncy lively dog she used to be. I didn't really notice how differently she was behaving since Riot disappeared. We named the Mal Veta. She was very fearful and seemed completely depressed in the beginning and now she's happy and adjusting nicely. The only problem I had with her was on the second day she tried to protect me from Juno. She put her body between Juno and me and snapped towards her in the air. I noticed the behavior and acted quickly and was able to resolve it.
This dog seems to have been loved. She's very social towards people and animals, she's crate trained (ran right into it) and knows some simple commands.
My baby is crying. I'll update more later.
