I live in Kansas City, where it is hot and humid in the summer and bitter cold in the winter. Many of the members of my SAR unit have pickups with a camper shell. The way we "beat the heat" in the summer is by placing a portable electic fan (not the battery kind) in the back sliding window of the cab, and the cool air blows directly into the shell. With the side shell windows open 6"-8", it works a lot like an attic fan in your house.
A 9" electric fan that you can buy at any hardware store or Wal-Mart will run off your pickup's power outlet with a power converter that you buy at the same place. It's really easy. No tools required!
One of our unit members actually had an exhaust fan installed in the back cab window and had it rigged to her battery, so she could run the fan even when the engine was off.

Thanks Ray! I hope this isn't to dumb of a question but here goes.....How does one run the power cord through to the back into the bed? The new trucks come with solid rear windows to accomodate rear defoggers, how do you get access to the power source from w/in the bed of the truck? <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/confused.gif" alt="" /> ( obviously, we are not a very mechanically oriented family!)
Thanks!
No one ever said life was supposed to be easy, life is what you make of it!!
There are several holes in the firewall that are covered with rubber stoppers that you can run a wire through from the power outlet. Then just run the wire along the frame rail to the bed and up through one of the holes in the corner of the bed. No need to go through the rear window.
It fits two crates easy if you remove the third row seat. Still leaves you with seating for five adults, or two adults, two carseats, and one skinny ass adult or youngster.
I sold my Yukon, worst decision I've made in a long time. I'm going to buy another one.

Thank you Brian.I guess a mechnic friend of mine could handle doing something like that for me.
VC, that's great to know. I was confusing the Yukon with the Tahoe sized twin GMC model.
Do you remove the 3rd row by folding it flat or does it come out completely?
I am down to only one kid in a car seat these days, the others are old enough (and weigh enough) now to use only seat belts, so the Yukon or Suburban sounds great.
Of course it doesn't really matter which model you get, as they are the same vehicle. . .although who in their right mind would want to roll in a Chevy?
Jeanette,
Another avenue to search for DC equipment are RV suppliers and Marine stores (Boat US, West Marine). You'll find a large selection of fans, AC Units and the like to customize your rig!
