Anyone not from Dallas but willing to meet me at the Minneapolis airport we can split car rental fees/room rates. email me: laslavens@yahoo.com<br />
Im 27yoa, male, police officer, non-smoker, will not be bringing my dog, picture of me on leerburg equipment tug page. And i just realized this sounds like a personal ad....lol.
But if your interested email me.
Luke, I saw the pic of you and you're dog. Very nice looking dog. Who are it's parents and what are you planning on doing with you're dog? How old is you're dog?
I might be interested in going to Wisconsin for the Flinks seminar to let Flinks test and or evaluate my two Czech pups. If anyone is planning on driving through the Kansas City area or close to the area and wants to share expenses please e-mail me at labasal@planetkc.com.
I would prefer being the passenger in you're vehicle but would assist in the driving and expenses. Remember I will probably want to bring both of my Czech pups. But would only bring one if I had too.
I have a question.
You mean at this Flinks seminar I can get my new czech pup evaluated by Bernard Flinks? I hope to make it but as everyone else I might have to work.
Bernhard will evaluate your dog. But be advised - he has a saying - it goes something like this" I AM NOT HERE TO BRING HONEY TO YOUR FACE" translated - you are going to get an honest opinion and if you dog would be better served being a pet you will be told that. If your dog is a level 3 or 4 dog on a scale of 1 to 10 you will be told that. This is not done in a mean spirited way - just plain facts and its too bad that this is what it is. Bernhard is a very gracious person. He is not insulting or mean spirited.
I have a question about the clinic that I was hoping some of you could answer for me.
I do not have a dog of this caliber,I have always had GSD Rescues. I do train my dogs to the best of our ability with a great trainer.
I really want to attend just since I love the sport and think I can learn something from it.Now I was not going to bring my two dogs but the person I train with said go ahead bring them with no one will mind.
I have no intentions on having the dogs evaluated since I am being very realistic it would be a waste of time.
They (our trainer) said it would be good for the dogs and for us to get out and around other dogs that people actually do something with. (He meant no dog park people)
Is this frowned upon? I don't want to be in the way at all. I have never seen a real clinic go on in person and I am not sure what to expect.
Would we be in the way or taking anything away from people that are there with their dogs? I was planning on going with out the dogs and this came up last week when I said I was going.
Any feedback would be great. I just want to make sure we are not in the way at all. I understand how many people are looking forward to this and it is so close to my house I really don't want to miss it.
Just trying to be politically correct on this issue since I am novice at this. I am just dieing to see some awesome dogs! I rarely get to see them.
With or without the dogs, I think you can get some benefit from the exposure to good trainers. Even with lower "drive" dogs the techniques can still be applied. In addition there are things that you can do to make the dog more desirous of the reward. If the dog is poorly motivated for food, don't feed it for a day or two will increase the value of food for the dog. If the dog craves attention it is possible to isolate the dog for a while prior to working it (crate the dog in a quiet area) and then bring it out will increase the "value" of the contact with you. I think that you will learn more with the dogs, but understand that most people are going to want to work with an animal that is easier for them. It is also easier to demonstrate a point with a dog that has the higher motivation. In other words your dogs may not be worked as much. It is just human nature. I still think that you will get a huge benefit from the seminar. I really wish I could get there for it. Even thogh the breed I work with has much a different level of motivation than the breeds that will be worked with there.
If you can't be a Good Example, then You'll just have to Serve as a Horrible Warning. Catherine Aird.
In a word...GO. Also bring your dogs. Its unfair to say your dogs will get worked less. I think Bernhard would care less what your dog is rated. The seminar is not to rate dogs. I'd be more worried to have a level 8 dog and be a level 5 trainer. Bernhard will NEVER make you or your dog feel inferior. He will give you the truth, and the world needs more people like him. We will never get to be better trainers if we go to get our egos caressed. The seminar is about making you a better trainer and like I said....go.
