Casey, thanks for clarifying that. I wasn't able to get Jack's pedigree on Saturday because Wayne wasn't there and Dave wasn't sure where it all was. I sent you a PM a minute ago, so when you reply to that I'll give you my fax number.

Oh, and Jeff, I have no IDEA why his eyes were all bugged out and stuff in that first picture. He had come running around the corner of the couch and I think was planning on jumping on me LOL but then I just happened to take the picture and it flashed at him and he stopped and was like, WHOA! Then jumped on me.
Nothing seems to phase him at all. Stairs, he flies up and down them. Keys being dropped next to him (it was an accident), nothing. He just sniffed them and wagged his tail and licked my chin when I bent down to pick them up. The neighbors shooting, nada. The children of the neighborhood riding down the street in a plastic wagon (it makes this horrible noise on the rough pavement), he just wants to go and jump on 'em (which they love right now). I think he's gonna be a good one. I hope so because I'm already getting attached (unless he's barking in the crate, and then I'm glad I don't leave a round in the chamber because I'm afraid I'd use it without stopping to think first. LOL!!)

just keep in mind that if you title the dog in schutzhund, you'll have to undo some of that training for police work. i am currently working a new dog that has an IPO title. on his area searches, he still maintains a sch or IPO search pattern. he'll go out a ways then come back to me, then go back out. you can almost see him clearing blinds when he's going out. that pattern is slowly going away, but it's an issue i'd rather not have to deal with. so there are issues other than the aforementioned sleeve focus...

Tim, he isn't going to be a police dog, just a personal protection dog (PPD, not PSD), but I do see what you're saying, and have had others tell me the same thing.

Congratulations on your new pup. My only advice, read the thing I should have done, for a new pup would be to sit down and put in writing exactly what you want out of the dog when he's an adult. I also wish I had done a training log with my guy right from the beginning. Being able to look back at what worked and also look back at your mistakes with a clear head, while having clearly defined goals for your dog is priceless.

Kristen he's prescious. I like dogs with lots of black. Good luck with him.
Great point Jason. That is exactly what the SAR trainer told us on our first training session, to keep notes on every session.

ah, i see. then why not train for a PSA title? IMO much more useful than SCH for your use...

Magnus is close, but I'm just not sure about him. Not really bad vibes, but just something. Maybe some of the more 'seasoned' trainers and competitors can watch the videos on his site and see what they think, but *I* just wasn't all that impressed. I haven't gone to watch him train, but he said he trains at 2:00 on Sundays at the old Ghosttown parking lot in Maggie Valley.
Tarheel is the one that's around 5 hours driving time one way.

I know what you mean, I had the same feeling watching those videos, I don't have enough experience to say "hey he's doing this that and the other wrong" but I was having my share of doubts watching that stuff.... The last video, Eddy the Police K9 reminded me of my boy Cujo tho - same kinda coloring, and not as manic as some of the other dogs, lets hope Cujo can prove to me that he can bite like that too
