I am not so sure -- I know my dog is considered blanket black but she had the bicolor markings that receded as she grew...the tarheels are still there but flecked with tan.
So the young puppy you had a pix (yours) of I would not call a bicolor the 5 month old - not sure....maybe maybe not.
I think bicolor pups usually start black with a light ring around the butt and that is all.
I guess that is all the thought I have given it since it is just color. I think good pigment really is important but color - I don't really care.

I do now get the 5 month old is the younger pup from the previous post but the pix don't show much around the back end.

(This pic) shows a pretty good view of the rear and underbelly. Around what age did the bicolor markings recede enough that you were sure it was blanket backed?

Oh gee, I don't know. I gave up really wondering about it. I guess if I were breeding her it *might* matter but then if I were breeding color would not be important........I guess for me, I don't see any true bicolors close up in her pedigree but there are a lot of dark b/t dogs.
I have also been told by several breeders on another board that mine is NOT a bicolor and she has some similarities in coloration to yours.

She has now added shoulder stippling at the withers and some in her neck as well but I don't have a good pix of that. This pix was at 1.5, she is now 2.5 There is black down the front of the legs (since you cannot see it), zero toe striping, and you can see the remnants of the tarheels. The centerline of her belly is black with the silver tufts under the front armpits. The insides of her legs and tail feathering are tan / silver.

Thanks I needed that. On a serious note I will take a picture of him for all to see a skunk he is not to be.

This is a bi color:
http://www.adlerstein.com/KizarWeb7205.jpg
This is NOT a bi-color:
http://www.adlerstein.com/Magnus1.jpg
The first dog is black everywhere including his stomach and inside/top of his rear legs and tar heels. He has penciling on the toes.
The second dog has tan legs up to the elbow, some tan on his stomach and tan on the inside of the rear legs. No penciling on the toes, no tar heels.
While they are both very dark with lots of black, there is a distinct difference. The second dog is a blanket black and tan.
