I'll close the thread if any info on the program being speculated about starts to flow over the net.
Keep it professional here guys.

Specs Ops? I'm curious for more information on that program as it's unknown to me. We provide all the dogs for DoD and that includes the new Specialized Search Dogs and the returning Combat Tracker dogs. I'd like to be enlightened on this program and who are using these dogs...
The episode that I remember had Stewart Hillard talk through a good portion of the program and explain what they were looking for in a dog. It showed some portions of the selection testing ( which was pretty impressive )and followed some of the dogs through selection.
If you ever get a chance to see it, you'll appreciate the hard work done by MWD handlers and their partners on a daily basis.
Obviously, the US is trying (at least) to establish a viable breeding program for its MWD/Federal LE dogs. So far, it seems, they have had mixed success. To be fair, the program is still young and could either continue to develope into a good program, or go down in flames. The jury seems to still be out.
So here is my question: What country do you guys feel currently has the BEST government breeding program for its MWD/PSD's. The Czech z. PS seems like an obvious answer, but from all accounts has declined a good deal recently in quality. So which countries CURRENTLY have the best programs, in your opinions and why?
What happens to the dogs that get washed out? Are they sold to civilians or given to police departments? From what I have been told, I would say a current success rate of 52% sounds pretty good.
Most MWD that get washed are because of a training problem in one way or another. Either that have a gun fire issue or handler issues. Once they are pulled and put up for adoption Police departments get first crack and then other agencies can look at them. All of the dogs have some level of training and very seldom are they offered out to no law enforcment. Most that fail out of the military get sucked up by PDs and end up making very nice dogs.
When people get scared they call the police..When the police get scared they call K-9!

I have another question, how long was this program in effect? Also did it have good success right away?
One last question. Do you cull puppies in the program?
