I didn't see it mentioned, but iso alchohol is a good thing to keep on hand. It evaporates very quickly and I have used it on dogs stomachs to cool them down on the way to the vet.
This is great. I don't know why I hadn't thought of this or heard of it at the training club.
Conditioning slowly to work in heat isn't a wise option with a flat-faced breed, who have to avoid heat, period, but I know most people here are not talking about flat-faced breeds. I have one of them and a GSD, and I am going to start keeping isopropyl alcohol on hand before summer comes. Thanks!
the Dobe can hardly be forced outside when it's raining, much less voluntarily get into water

Hahahaha! Same with my Dobes. They might get in the kiddie pool and stand if it was brutally hot out, but you couldn't get them to lie down for anything.
I did have one that liked to be sprayed with the hose as he raced by, though. As long as it was just a quick spritz, that was O.K.; if you really doused him.....game over!
Jeff, I did mention rubbing alcohol to draw out heat; but have never had to try it yet and was wondering if anyone here had. More so to know if it actually did work before the time comes, glad to hear that it does.
Don't get me wrong, Robert; I would have to agree with you that ice would work the best. But, it does melt and I'm not going to take a cooler with me on a leisure walk. Maybe to the beach
VC, why not a combination of the two. I suspect you keep lots of alchohol iced up......for emergency use, of course.
It is not like its easier, or better, it is for emergencies when you dont have ice. Of course if you have ice you would use it. Emergency = Oh crap!
