Thomas ,
The subject of this thread was fight drive as it related to a Police K9 transferring bites in a real engagement with a badguy .
I don't know of too many civilian or sport trainers that have that real life experiance . The only sport trainers I know of with that experiance are EX-Law Enforcement or Military K9 Handlers .
I don't mind civilians giving advice on tracking , obediance , article search , etc. , etc. . I have learned alot from them , but when they start getting involved in the subtleties of actual Police K9 deployments they are basing their opinions and giving advice based upon little to no knowledge of what they are talking about .

I was going to add my experiences and views here, but since I'm just a "henchman", I think I'll skip this conversation....
Come on Will, We haven't heard a good sea story from you in a while and we just can't wait for your book anymore

Will, as much as I'd like to hear your point of view, I will NOT beg .
C'mon. Tell. (Nowhere did I say I would not demand
This thread got way out of control, it appears (I miss EVERYTHING but I think there are people with valid points and ideas on this topic that shouldn't let that stop them from posting. I do think it should've been in the police section, though, from the direction it ended up heading. I, too, did not realize that it was only meant for police k9 handlers at first, as it's in the PPD section.

Dont want to be rude I am a civilian.. and it was my door police would knock on when it came to actually search of escaped prisoners... not their dog was taken to do the job, but a civilian dog that had what it took, trained by a dumb a%* teenager.
Sorry sometime civilians, can help sometimes they cant.. my dog had a chance.. we had an opportunity to work with police in our place so they could see what civilian dog could/couldnt do and their handlers could provide.
I did have help of very experienced people, I did not trained all by myself..

I first started going to a club when my dog reached about 9 mos.We had only one club in my home town, and there where about 3 other towns involved in training. Police had to do the bite work with us/the club due to lack of helpers and times the helpers had. They got to see how my dog worked. Very well socialized in publick, but an a** at work, He could jump off of slow moving car and couple of times he juped off of moving train..slow not in high speed.. we had fun training honestly no "prey drive only"..A lot of building search and so on.
It all happend pretty fast, police in my town wanted to buy the dog from me, but I did not want to sell. My friend was an oficer and he took my dog just for try once and he bit a "criminal" the first night. My friend would take him on every shift ever since. I worked at secutity agency, later on, where we would search the wagons.. I am a short, skiny girl and I was 19 at that time..I would never do the job without my dog.. no way. He would go in, without me, usually the suspects would have the door shat..when I heard the bark, i would call help, other 2 guards would come, and I would call off my dog.. We worked in extremely cuped up places..wagon. They would escort the person out and if the person decided to run..well he/she did not run too far. When I came back from Prague..where I worked at the security com. I got hold of my friend again and he wanted to work with my dog, but this time it was a prison about 40 miles from my town.. This is how my dog got on to actual work, I think I got lucky.
Kind of long story, but hope it gives you an idea.. I was the dogs handler most of the time, Sometimes my friend had a bit hard time to recall that "monster" so if there were people who escaped from prison.. I was on a radio on dogs neck yelling "out"
He was a lamb around people, did not care, tolerated kids even played with them, loved to play tug with almost anybody. As soon he got the command he was extremely serious.. He would attack my father if I told him..no kidding. He would attack my police friend if I told him.. we had a bet and I won.
He was an extremely all around dog.. too bad he never made it anywhere in competition. only at work.

I appreciate everyone's insight in this thread. This is what I was looking for and have come away with some valuable information.
Martina,
Your bio says, Northern U.S.. Where exactly? Just would like to get an idea of what agency utilized your dog and why they would risk getting sued in event of a dog bite.
