Judy, didn't mean it as an insult as I meant it as a stupid thing to do. Why would you put your dog in a situation where he could chew something up if he someday decided to or for that matter risk something that you claim is worth so much money. Makes you sound pretty foolish if you are putting something of such great value in jeopardy. Or else you are so rich that you might like to share some of your extra $$$ with us less fortunate, that you seem so willing to toss away on such foolish risks. But then again Gunner is a very laid back pet & not a working dog, lucky for your rug. Most of us with very high drive working dogs would not be so quick to be so foolish as to risk putting such a valuable item in possible harms way. I hope that your good luck continues to hold up where you dog & rug are concerned.

Well Anne, you referred to me as stupid and foolish no less than 4 times. If that's your idea of NOT trying to insult someone, might I suggest charm school? Let's put this one to bed, shall we?

Judy, I think that you should stick to the information that this forum was set up for: discussing training issues & questions for those of us that have working dogs. Your house & what you have in it has nothing to do with training working dogs. We are here to share working dog training information, ideas & experiences. Lets stick to the topic of WORKING dogs, shall we.

Wait a sec. Aren't there a LOT of people on the forum with sports dogs and even (gasp) just plain pets?

Don't know whether to post this here in crate training/free in the house or in feeding raw, but we've had dogs we needed to keep crated or baby gated and dogs that were trustworthy in the house.
Our dearly loved big ol' female GSD was very trustworthy until one day I came home from school to find a large grease spot on the carpet in my office. Looking closely, I found a tiny piece of plastic that had the word "Tyson" on it. Found the rest of the plastic under the table in the kitchen. Sure nuff, she opened the fridge, took out my 3lb chicken, and ate the WHOLE thing. Called the vet in a panic and he laughed and said she would be fine. What he didn't tell me and I didn't know at the time...raw chicken is a good thing.
This old girl stole several things out of the fridge and after that it was babygate at the office door.

Yes,you are partially correct, Connie, But 'sport' dogs, such as SchH dogs etc ARE working dogs, not just Personal Protection & Polics K9s etc. But the original purpose of this forum when Ed first started it was to be a place for working dog people to discuss training experiences & ideas. I started viewing this forum about 5 or so years ago. There were many more experienced trainers sharing info back then. It has only really been in the last couple of years that it has gone more into other areas of discussion. It would be nice if it would head back to more of where it began. Don't mean to offend, but I am tired of all the fluffy dog pet talk & unrelated topics & info that this forum has fallen into. There are plenty of other pet owner forums out there for those discussions to take place. It is rare these days to have any truly meaningful working dog training discussions. There is some good 'other' info occasionally that is discussed, but not alot of real working dog talk these days. Too bad. And this has gone way off topic...so it is at an end.

And SAR and Service and so many more.

But can't you post any questions or observations you want about working or sports training? There are certain topics that bore me, too, but I just don't read them.
"Real working dogs" ....... I'm not saying that I have this opinion, but I sure do know people on this and other forums who don't consider sports dogs to be "real working dogs." But that's probably not relevant.
I guess I thought that if the topic was listed in the forum's "Main Index," then it was a valid topic.
But I generally post replies to nutrition or allergy questions and answers about basic training, two things I like to think I have experience in and have researched as well. So I don't often open a thread.
Are you saying that the people opening threads are addressing concerns and subjects that the forum was not designed to cover?
You may be 100% correct; I'm just clarifying.
