Ms.Barbara,
To answer to your post.
First,I am not coming down to your level and getting personal “to get off my soapbox”. And I can see we are not at the same level as a person and as a breeder.
In your post you kept mentioning you have a contract . Do you have morales and ethics?
I never would post anything like your previous post because I already know what I have to do by myself. I have morales for the dog and I am ethical as a breeder.
You keep saying you ask your clients if they are sure about the dog but that’s a question you shouldn’t have to ask the client you should be asking yourself if the client is right for the dog. I have had several clients that ask me for a specific dog and I don’t ask them if they are sure that’s what they want after I interview them , I tell them this dog is not right for them if that is so. It doesn’t matter if he offers the money I was asking for.
You said before a client comes through your door you interview them for several hours, it doesn’t look like it. When I made the statement that it looks like you concentrate on quantity not quality it’s because I’m reading what you said and you seem more focused about refunding the money than getting back your dog. So it shows how much you care about your puppy.Like I told you before I don’t ever have to ask a question like this to anybody, I already know the answer.
In your new post you say you have one litter a year and in my view that does not make one a breeder. You say there are many professional breeders that charge a restock fee to cover costs. You also said “when did it become a crime to be paid for your time”. It’s not a crime it’s a shame for a “professional breeder” to try to charge somebody a restock fee after 24 hours or to not think about taking the dog back. The classic case “when a dog is going bad” is then started, meaning if the dog bites somebody ,the dog will probably be put in a shelter and then euthenized. That’s when everybody in the canine world pays the price because the reputation of the German Shepherd goes down the drain and more restrictions and more insurance will be asked by the government.
I am a trainer and a breeder for more than 20 years and I do so in the most professional and ethical way I can so I can not let some bad apples ruin the reputations of good professional breeders.

Do you have morales and ethics?**** Yes, Mamm I do. The dog was right for the husband for what he requested from me. He even stated it himself. He choose not to keep the dog as a working dog and decided to make it a family pet first then working. This is where he changed his mind after going home.
"In your new post you say you have one litter a year and in my view that does not make one a breeder" **** I personally do not ever want to be labeled as a "professional Breeder" My label is a Mother first and foremost, graphic designer by career, and German Shepherd lover by hobby. I do not need to be a jack of all trades. I enjoy working, training and titling my dogs and every now and then having a litter. So if that means I am not a "BREEDER" then so be it.
I never once thought about NOT taking the dog back. Everyone that knows me knows how I am about my babies.
Handling the trueth I can do but let it be the trueth I am not here to make a "Living" off of selling puppies. I have a Carrer for that.
Again the question that was asked "What would YOU do?" NOT WHAT SHOULD I DO?
the question that was asked "What would YOU do?" NOT WHAT SHOULD I DO?
that's more than a little disingenuous. francesco is right. this is not a question an ethical breeder asks. they already know the answer.
i agree with the others who say you should file this away as a learning experience to help you in the future. all the advice you got was good advice. don't ask if you don't want to hear.
Yes I knew the answer and that is why when he called me that night at 11pm I told him just bring back the dog and I would give him his money back. So at 10.45 am he was at my house on a Sunday Morning. I needed NO one to tell me what to do. JUST asked a question! kinda like hey how do you groom a dog? Or what is in your contract or how would you handle this? Lesson to all careful what you ask.
if that is really the case, i would suggest that rather than tell us your whole story--which sounds like you are asking us for advice on what to do in your situation--just ask the question.
something as simple as: hey, all of you who breed, what is your policy on taking back dogs? do you have a nonrefundable deposit? do you ever refuse to take a dog back and under what circumstances?
and stop there.
then we won't come to the erroneous conclusion that you are seeking advice on what YOU should do!

I was setting the stage sort of speaking. But you point is a good one and I will remember that from here on out.
