Kevin, I'm sorry if I gave the impression I was being rough on the officer...certainly didn't mean to do that. I have nothing but respect for cops who chase the bad guys when I would be running the other way. I just got a laugh out of the video because of my civilian perspective, but now thinking better I DO feel sorry for the cop, not having a dog he could rely on. I wish I knew 1/4 of the police dog training you know and what it takes to get a dog to be a PSD...I'd be a happy camper! So again, my apologies.

God!!! That never gets old! I know nothing about police work or personal protection work, but I love watching the dogs that do.

not only did the dog didnt help, but the John Doe didnt do anything either...Sad when we cant help the officer or dog and just sit a watch like we are at a sporting event...
Myself it just seems to far fetch to be a real event ..only one officer and a untrained dog, John Doe not helping, and yet there is someone filming it.... Plus was that the whole video,,,What happened to the rest of the story..
Someone just trying to made the police look bad is my vote.

Kevin,
I think you have to know that I'm a wife of a Law enforcement officer. I have seen officers that run much faster in " full gear" longer and harder than the officer in question, mind you I doubt that officer (in UK) wears a bullet proof vest and has the kinda gears you guys wear here in the States, so I would expect a little more of an effort than what he showed.Sure we are not seing the whole picture and commentating on what we've all seen on that little bit of clip.I think the dog sucked as far as a police dog no question about it but common that handler needs a rough critisism. I think chasing on foot (especially that his K9 sucked) for so long with no back up was already a mistake on his part. And where is his back up?
What do you think if things would have turned for the worse ? That officer could have done things differently when he saw that his k9 was NO HELP, I think most K9 hanlders know when it's time to stop sending out their K9 with no good results. He send his dog out over 3 times with no help from the dog.I think it was a bad call on his part to continue with his k9. I am very supportive of ANY officers ,no matter what.I don't mind pointing out the not so good ones, and I am not sure that I am saying that, that handler is not a good one but I think he could have done things differently. How many times have you seen an officer make a bad choice/judgement and it costed his life or life of other officers or K9 for that matter.
When a incident happens and it does not turn out with the intended results ,I think you can look back and learn from the mistakes that were made, no harm in that.I think that their were mistakes made that day that the handler can learn from.

What we also don't know, of course, is how long this 'chase' had gone on prior to this clip, as both human participants look as if they may have run quite a distance!
I have sent this clip to my SiL in the Met Police to see whether this clip has 'done the rounds' in the UK police(as they usually do!) and whether he has any info on what preceded it!

If you slow down the video and pause right at the beginning of it ...their seems to be a police car and also to me looks like theres another k9 officer and a dog at the side of the car ...hard to see but the colors of the uniform seems to be the same brightness...and just for a slpit second seems to be movement next to that officer(brightness) and the shadow seems to be the same side and shape of the dog chasing the bad guy..
which leave me to assume
Could this be a training session with a young inexperience dog....Maybe even the dog first attempt in a real life sitution....
Depending on the officer age he did good, not only did he catch up to the guy but he almost arm tackled the guy...
but we all know that from watching football that a arm tackles just doesn't get the job done...
Question to the k9 officers and /or any law inforcer do you on your off time wear weight jackets to help with your endurance and stamina?????

This dog turned into one of the forces best dogs.
This incident was the dogs first ever "live" operational chase, and the result is obvious.
I can understand people's opinions , however it can happen.

Yeah, I read that somewhere Neil. But way back in 2006 when this video first popped up, it looked like something out of Culver City.
