In the vid, Gunnar's ears are turned backwards sharply to his rear of his body- showing something back there is bothering him- in the same area the area you would expect pain to be. Obviously his body language would be different if his pain where elsewhere.

I was a vet tech and our boss (the vet) always said if a client had concerns, bring them in, no advice over the phone because people describe things too differently to know what they really mean. Good thing you are finding another vet!

I had a c-section, and let me tell you, I felt my body had been sawed in half and put back together again. I had all kinds of weird twitching, stinging, pain, tightness, numbness and any other odd sensation you could imagine near and on the incision. (My doc said this was normal.. but I wonder.) He is probably having the same weird nerve sensations near where his "jewels" used to be Maybe they did do something wrong/different?

OK, just walked in the door from the new vet visit:

He was wonderful. Aside from the police force, my sister and a few others who I know go to him and described him as having a very pleasant bedside manner. They did not exaggerate. He was just terrific. Here's what he said:

Gunnar's stitches were too tight . New vet said he normally he leaves stitches in for 7 to 10 days but he looked at them and made an executive decision to take them out. Once he did, you could see where the marks were from them . He said as Gunnar healed this would probably get worse which explains why the cowering thing did not lessen as the days went on.

He did add a little surgical glue to the site just in case and said it did look good and that I should call him tomorrow regardless of how Gunnar is doing. Nice to see he takes an interest !

He further explained that the stitches being too tight is the reason he acted fine one moment and not the next. He said it probably felt to Gunnar like an intermittent insect sting.

By the way, they were nylon stitches which meant the other vet never told me to come back and take them out . There is no way I would have missed that instruction. I even asked them the next day, "When am I due back again?" and they told me, "July for vaccines"!!

Just as bad, I told the new vet that I threw the ball w/Gunnar today and yesterday and he said, "No, no real exercise for him for one week. I always tell my patients that after this surgery. Didn't your vet tell you that?"

NO! He gave me no instructions whatsoever. ARGH! !

So now I have to wait and see and hope that Gunnar doesn't do it again. He hasn't done it yet since we left the office but, frankly, I really did run to my computer right after the vet visit to post this so I guess I have to give it more time to be sure he's ok .

So, a million thanks to all of you. You were so very helpful. I'll resurrect the thread tomorrow and give a final update.

Thank goodness!!! I'm so glad you changed vets and went in right away. I'm relieved it was stiches and not something even worse. It sounds like your new vet is great. Judy, I really think you need to do something about the other vet & his crap asistant. Maybe you should go in on their busiest day (Saturday?) and confront the crap assistant AND the vet (who will probably cower in the back). Go in and explain EVERYTHING in a LOUD but polite voice, so the other clients will hear. That office is a hazard.

I know you're right Susan that I should do something. I will probably opt for writing a letter . You're way is far more effective in giving them what they really deserve though !

YEAH!!! I'm so happy! That good boy deserves better than the old vet gave him! I would be FURIOUS at them!

And sooooo relieved! I know how much you value Gunnar, Judy, and it's great that he's got you looking out for him.

YES! So thankful you went to another vet. Oh the pain he must have been in !! Your 'old' vet is as stupid as my OLD one. Had our boy neutered and sent home with no stitches, staples or a collar. Guess who came wide open on the weekend? I've found word of mouth with neighbors and friends has been a great way for me not to recommend this vet.

I'd be writing a letter AND going in to the original vet to *politely in a loud voice* explain what happened!!!

Give Gunnar some rest days for recovery--he will be finer than a frog's hair (like they used to say on the RR)

Hey, now that Gunnar's all fine and dandy, does this mean you can sue that horrible vet for malpractice (and whatever else you can throw in there) and make him pay for the suffering he caused?

You can use the money to buy Gunnar a whole deer or caribou or kangaroo (or whatever) so he can munch on that and keep his mind off his discomfort.
It'll prevent him from getting bored while still on "bed rest"

Seriously though, this is great. I'm happy you got this resolved so quickly :-)
