Hi Amber: You don't sound like an idiot becaseu the Bravo website doesn't show their raw whole bones (I don't understand it either)! I get my Bravo from a distributor who gets the bones from Bravo. I know they are Bravo because the boxes all come with Bravo label (Bravo Lamb necks, Bravo whole venison necks, etc.) except the chicken which is Murrays. I am sure any distributor near you has the same stuff. Here is a link: http://k9rawdiet.com/Whole-Bones-c-17.html
Susan, oh my gosh, what a good site! Did you see the Sam's Yams Veggie chews? And the Dried Beef Trachea Chew Treats? I'm looking for chew treats that are healthy, low in fat and last at least as long as a recreational bone. He started putting on some unneeded weight with the rec bones and I want something a bit less caloric in nature. Currently I'm giving beef marrow bones, beef rib bones, and pork neck bones for rec bones, but they almost constitute a whole meal without giving the meat nutrition that he needs (I think) and have too much fat (even cutting most off). Besides, he's not really getting any benefit from the bone in the marrow bones or rib bones cause they're too hard to chew down. So they constitute one meal calorie wise but without the bone intake benefit.
What about the smoked chews on that site? Is smoked ok to give? I'm leaning toward the Beef Gullets, etc.
Susan, THANKS!! I've heard people referencing their RMBs but have never been able to figure out where they saw that. Very handy link!
Yuko,
Sorry for stealing your thread...hope you don't mind but the opportunity came up to ask something I've been wondering about for awhile! Do they sell fresh rabbits with the fur on?
Amber: I doubt that any place would sell unskinned rabbits. You'd probably have to go directly to the butcher/slaughterhouse and ask for it in advance.
Or just buy a live rabbit from a farm and kill it yourself if you have the stomach for that. It won't get any fresher than that at least.
Hehe, no worries about the new direction this thread is taking
I steal threads all the time (smacks self) so I don't see it as a problem, lol.
Wow, that Bravo stuff is so expensive!!!! Seriously, why would anyone fork over 4-5$ a pound for dog food?? There's no way I could afford that
Amber, you're more than qualified to be preparing your dogs' meals on your own! I hope you reach enough peace of mind soon so that Carbon can start crunching and ripping instead of eating mush
Hey, I thought it was weird and kinda scary when I started raw too (especially with a wee little 7-week-old puppy) but I trusted my breeder's advice and experience and just went for it.
And she (pup's breeder) wasn't just feeding chicken backs either. Click here and here to see the kinds of photos she was sending me of the litter before I even picked up my puppy!!
(The dam, sire and pups all feasting on FRESH deer!! lol)
It all worked out fine - now I can't even remember why I was fretting so much over starting raw feeding all those months ago

Yuko; Bravo's prices are $1.30lb/venison necks; $2.72 lb/lamb necks; $1.06lb/chicken frames. While it is more than supermarket prices there are a couple of reasons. It's hormone free, antibiotic free and grass fed. I use the Bravo blends as a vehicle for vitamins and supplements but I feed their whole bones for evening meal. Then there is the matter of convenience, my distributor delivers to my home which makes it definitely worth more to me!
Yuko, I know I'm being overly-cautious. My HEAD knows that but my HEART is worried!
I just want to feel more solid...maybe I'll write out a five day sample menu and submit it to the board for review. If I pass...I'll do it! It's not just Carbon...my Corgi could probably use it even more than him. The Corgi's the one with the health issues.
