Gives them an oppurtunity to re visit the myth and lets face it we don't want to frighten the public at large with our dogs some of us have dogs that frighten us at times
I think ther will always be some kind of distraction that will work, Dogs are all at different points on the traing map, some better or farther along than others. I used to do schutzhund, there is nothing like this in that sport. I now do ppd, I know that PSA, ring sports all do food distractions at some point. Wolf urine????? only on TV. A bitch in heat, we some times will have one come on the training field during OB. Its a good distraction to work through. I dont think everything u see on TV is realistic to life. If I need my dog he will do his job. I hope It never has to be more than a sport for me. I live in Ca. If you send a dog on some one you better be willing to pay the very high cost.
I think there is something to the wolf Urine. I got two dogs that are good with other dogs but reacted poorly when some new age nature kook showed up with thier wolf. Those two were just Obedienced and tricks trained, I havn't exposed my sport dogs to that
I don't know if any of you will care or not, but the guy w/the shepherd is a police officer whom I just met a few weeks ago. I doubt it was a "guard" dog, but his K9, which would explain the training he had. He did not have any dog w/him when I met him.
The blonde guy does the training w/our dept.
I liked the first trainer for the Malamute. I noticed she put a prong on the dog right off and the dog didn't pull. She had that dog heeling in minutes.
The second trainer's theory was to use a flat collar and ignore the dog when it did not obey. C'mon. A flat collar on an untrained sled dog? That seems nuts. It was almost like she was trying to negotiate with the dog instead of taking charge. I would hate to see her try that mamby pamby talk with a dog that wanted to rip your hand off! I don't know if she was a pro trainer but she seemed really naive about dogs.
As far as the guard dog, is there a scent that humans give off when they are scared that attracts the dog? Those people seemed really scared. I almost fell off my chair craking up when the guy was acting submissive lying on the ground and the dog attacked him. I bet he peed his pants! I've never seen that show but I loved it. It's like the brainy version of Jackass.
