You and me both! My male Diesel ripped out all the stitching on the straps of my carharts two weeks ago at club and I thought I would not have to fix them for a while. WRONG.
I have it on good authority that there was about a foot of snow on the ground this AM around the seminar venue!! I assume it's melting / melted? by now. They have a good turnout, and the seminar is so interesting that I can barely get 10 seconds on the cell phone with Gary.
Eric's place only got about 6-8". It was a bit chilly in the morning. However, we did the lecture part of the seminar in the building out back. As usual, a very excellent talk.
The afternoon was bright, sunny and almost not cold.
We worked a lot of dogs in the afternoon.
Here are a few shots.
John Miller's new dog, Diesel. He is about 4 years old. His previous owner had been deployed overseas for an extended stretch. John has been working him for only about 4 months. His sire is Wessex vom Leerburg -- the dog Randy Rhodes had on the USA World Team a few years back. The dam goes back to Natan. He's an exceptionally nice dog.
Thanks for posting the pictures, and for the nice words on Diesel. He and I got a lot out of working with Bernard both in protection and OB. I think Bernard will remember him!
Stateline did a wonderful job under incredibly difficult conditions. As always there were so many great people and dogs.
The feedback from the Flinks Seminar hosted by Stateline has really affirmed in my eyes, what we're doing with Dave Blank as our trainer at http://www.JolietSchutzhund.com. Here are Gary's direct thoughts after arriving home on Saturday night:
In Gary's words:
"Bernhard's seminar was a wonderful confirmation that Joliet Schutzhund is on the right track working with Dave Blank. Dave's methods and techniques are similar to Bernhard's. This seminar made me even more excited about Joliet Schutzhund's future. It is no wonder that Dave gets inspiration and knowledge from Bernhard. He IS that good. The DVD's are nowhere near as good as the real thing.
I went out and worked Ferguson as soon as I got home, putting some of Bernhards' precision improvement suggestions to work. Like Dave, Bernhard is a "thinking person's trainer." He explains the "WHY" as well as the "how."
I enjoyed learning a wide range of things - from how to perform an emergency tracheotomy, should one of my dogs ever swallow a ball, to NOT petting my dog on the head/face as a "reward."
We are so fortunate to be able to train with Dave Blank every week."
Well, that's Gary's summary anyway. Have a great week doing your homework, and I'm hoping for awesome SPRING weather come Saturday for training!
This is a blatant endorsement for Bernhard when you CAN train with him (live or on DVD), and for Dave Blank every Saturday in Joliet IL if you can, or privately, or at his home club - Stateline Schutzhund.
Our enjoyment of our sport is greatly enhanced by people who donate the management and use of their private property to host these events, or training in general.
Big THANK YOUs should go out to Dave and Kathy Blank for hosting this event on their private property. Because of the weather and soft ground, we left a HUGE mud mess in their yard.
Despite the huge mess, and plenty of mud stuck vehicles, Dave and Kathy were gracious hosts. Thank you!
