All of Ceasars dogs are not altered. I watch regularly and I am convinced that he spends enough time with each pack member when they are first intoduced to the pack that they learn to coexist. I also believe we dont get to see everything that goes on so I'm sure there are occasional flare ups of aggression in that pack

Robbin, have you ever once heard me use the term "pack?" Nope. I do not have nor desire a pack of dogs. I have 6 individual friends. Some like each other sometimes. Some don't. I don't care. I don't like all my friends' friends, but I'm not going to have them all neutered just because I don't like them. Although if I could start w/my bf's friends...
They're not all foaming at the mouth trying to get at each other; they just don't hang out. They can all ride in the car together loose, if that counts for anything, but do I think it necessary or even positive for them to run around like a pack of idiots in the yard together? No. It isn't necessary for them to have doggie friends or play dates or for that matter, to have another person touch them. I am a psychotically controlling bitch, who demands idolization. Any more questions?
Ok, I REALLY have to go home!
Sets down her popcorn and takes a swig of her movie cup soda, slams one last junior mint and then ...my turn, HOLY COW! YOU JUST CANT GET ENTERTAINMENT LIKE THIS AT THE THEATRE!!
ah hem...pardon me, whilst I contain myself.
I love you guys!!
Such passion! Such animation! Even new colors to satiate the visual pallete!!
Seriously, hehehe, I guess we will all agree to disagree, huh? Well on some points we do agree, however, I never realized such an innocent post would inspire such good reading!
Jenni, my dear you are a jewel. It's that passionate attitude that I love most about you, however, on occasion I have noticed that you are perceived in perhaps a different light than you intend. I seem to recall a similar post about a week ago that you were misinterpreted. Boy do I understand! It's that sarcastic wit that we share, sometimes you can't hear it through the text.
Still, I respect your right to do w/your "crew of friends" whatever you want, as I do Carol and Angela. Its our differnces that make us interesting!
Now, would you like to lay down on my couch? Let's talk about your mother and your insatiable desire to be psychotic controlling bitch.
reaches for my popcorn.. ROFLMBO!!!!!! wuv ya!

It's a leadership/training issue. Like Al, my two intact GSD males run together. When it goes wrong, it's not something that happens overnight. It's just a matter of knowing your dogs and know what to keep an eye out for. I've raised multiple, intact terriers for years with no problems other then one, wacked out JRT. His was a temperment problem from the get go. I've had intact, multiple males with intact females. Still neve had a problem if you understand pack structure.

There are a couple of points here.
1- Almost always neutering a male dog after its reached maturity is not going to effect its temperament. To change temperament in a male neutering needs to be done at a young age - 5 months to 10 months.
2- I have seen many many adult male police service dogs that get neutered after 2 years of age - because they are monorchids - it has no effect on the males working ability.
3- Neutering a female that has reached maturity often increased dog aggression in the female.
4- Anyone who owns more than 3 dogs owns a dog pack - even if they are in avoidance of the issue.
5- So if you 100% expect behavior modification and you want to try neutering you had better do it at a young age.
6- Cesars show is a TV show - the editors never let the facts get in the way of a good story. The perfect example was the show about the couple in Florida who had a drug dog company. They had 5 or 6 dogs that they wanted to get along - one being a male Mal.
They introduced all the dogs and Cesars job was to get them all to get along. Funny thing was - you never saw the Mal again after the intro - never saw it never had anyone mention it. Hmmmmmmm
What part of that didn't work? My gut feel is he simply did not have enough time - why should the Mal have done anything Cesar asked? He didn't know him and had no reason to respect him.
I chuckle when Cesar has people whose dogs lift their front leg during their work and he tells them this is hunting drive :-) Maybe in front of a pheasant its hunting drive but next to the handler is a sign of SUBMISSION.
This show is very entertaining - and it has caused a lot of people to think about pack structure - which is great. But it does not present a program for people to follow and many many of the techniques that Cesar uses are DANGEROUS for a novice or even an intermediate trainer to attempt. He can make things work because of his handling skills but the vast vast majority of pet owners cant do what he does.
He also occasionally passes out questionable or incomplete information - like telling people who use remote collars that "you never want the dog to know that you the handler give the stimulation" Now thats just silly. The only time that applies is when people are trying to extinguish a behavior (IE like stopping digging or jumping on the door)

2 are and 2 aren't. What's the hangup with neutering? Pack dynamics is about a lot more than that, i have 4 that live in the house, toy's, bones, food, no problem, no fights. Maybe they're weak dogs huh?
