We just got my younger brother back from Afghanistan alive and well. Now - we have just found out he will be going back there in August. He sure is brave, and there are not a lot of people out there who can do what my brother and Ed's son and some of you all and your relatives do.
Some people do not realize how lucky they are that there ARE people out there willing to fight for them. They take it for granted. Too bad. The soldiers don't deserve that.

Ed,
The things you have said puts one big gulp in my throat because you have vented so brutally honest about the war. What you have done is a huge thing to open up with us and help us understand more.
I've always supported our troops. I know it is hard for families to be a parted from their love ones, but it never hit me that hard to think that they spent endless hours and days to wonder if their love ones are ok and safe.
Whether your son will make home alive or not, you must remember to be proud of things he has sacriffied and done amazing things for his country. You have taught a young boy to be a good man. Your son became the man you made, to be passionate about his country, his family, his friends, and his freedom. Only fathers can teach that to their sons.

Ed, if Obama wins, and God help us if he does, I think the first briefing he gets from the Pentagon and the Joint Chiefs is going to rock his stupid hippie socialist world he thinks we all live in.
I don't like any of the choices we have for President, but I know one of them who has seen what Jeff is dealing with every minute over there. McCain's not perfect and he's done and said things that offended me greatly, but I think he values your son and every person serving in the military 1000% more than the other two candidates representing the democratic party.
We have a debt to pay to all our military serving for us and the world!
I pray for Jeff and his buddies all the time...I've messed up in not remembering you and Cindy in those prayers. That will be remedied from here on out. Peace and a safe, happy return home to you and each family for Jeff and his buddies.

One poster said perhaps Michele would rethink the issue if she knew terrorists want to obliterate us (you'd have to have your head in the damn sand to not know that). Speaking from what I've seen through many years I can say that I've rarely if ever seen someone rethink an issue once they've been brainwashed into an extreme unreasonable viewpoint. It's as if they're sitting on sand that's being washed out from underneath them yet they refuse to move to higher ground.
To use one's freedom in such a disgusting manner is to not appreciate or understand freedom. Some deserve freedom, some don't.
And Michele, have respect for the owner of this forum and a good American, something you couldn't understand. How dare you be so ignorant. Too late now, you've just lost your freedom to be here.

Ed, reading you're "rant" was hard through my tears. You put it so touchingly, how could anyone not see and understand after reading that... We need more good men like you, your son, and the countless other unamed soldiers fighting to preserve our freedom and safety.
I too will be more vigilant in remembering them in my prayers.
Ed Frawley for President!

Hi Ed - I never speak about my Vietnam War experiences. No one except someone who went through another unpopular war could understand. People tend to not consider the huge sacrifices made by the families left behind.
There is still a image of that war burned into my mind forever and ever. I will take that image to my grave. That image isn't about bad war experiences and there is plenty of those. It is the image of my parents standing together holding hands and weeping quietly when I got on the plane to head off to WAR. That still tears me up.

I have had several requests to send on what I have written in this thread to friends or news papers. It is absolutely fine with me is people do this and put my name and email address on it. I don't care.
I wish every person who goes to the polls to vote could read it before voting. This was not my story its the story of of every American families who has someone in the military. I am sure if you show it to the father- mother - brother sister wife or husband of a military member they will say - yep - thats our family or yep thats exactly what we went through.
I would like to thank everyone for the kind emails and posts.I know Jeff and his friends appreciate the thoughts.
Ed

For those that weren't there, there are no words to explain.
For those that were, no words are necessary.

Just wanted to say a heartfelt thanks to all of those that serve or have served in the past. I was always told from a young age to appreciate the liberties we have and thank the soldiers that protect us for them. It's something that I'm trying to instill in my kids now. I also just wanted to throw this link out there http://www.woundedwarriors.org/index.htm
They're a great organization and I see them at the memorial races here in NY all the time. There's nothing like cheering on someone who lost their leg in the service of our country crossing the finish line. Screw the politics and God bless the service men and women.

Great link Eric.
I don't know if these are getting off topic or not, but here is another link . This is to the Patriot Gaurd Riders. They are motorcyclists all over the country who, when invited by the families, attend the funerals of our fallen Hero's and stand gaurd. They defend the honor of the Hero and the families by detering protesters. They also have a high code of honor.

We have a very good friend who is a Rider, and War Veteran.
