I agree, I have a black GSD/lab mix (I am guessing on the lab) but very few people know that GSDs can be black. Even with her erect ears and general GSD physique, she is very rarely recognized as a GSD.
You might be able to pull off telling people she is a Lab mix. I get asked what Jerri is all the time, she is rarely recognized as a GSD and my nephew's red Dobe, who was cropped and docked, used to be mistaken for a Lab.

Sorry to hear about your situation!
In addition to what has been mentioned, you might want to mention that you will crate Brenna or put her in a dog run when you're not around to watch her, also offer a generous damage deposit, if you can.
Hi Mike...I've been following your thread and am so sorry you need to make these life changes.
What about requesting to the prospective landlords that you are an exception with additional deposit AND a meeting with your dog. Show her off!!! She's tight on obedience, right? Tell them your history with her...you never know without asking...maybe you'll really impress someone and land a place to live with Brenna! It's worth a try.
Keep in mind, this is coming from me, a landlord who *prefers* to rent to GSD's only!!! Want to move to Iowa??? Although, the commute would kindof suck :crazy
Brenna's former kennel owner wants her back. She always had right of first refusal in taking her back, but when all this legal stuff started for me months ago she wasn't sure if she could take her back. She's had some severe health problems since working 9/11 with her FEMA team from Texas and her dog died from toxins inhaled at ground zero, but she's reported to me yesterday that her health has stabilized and she'd like to have Brenna. For that, I'm very grateful.
I can also thank Howard, Robbin, Sandy and everyone who posted here for their help, concern, and willingness to possibly adopt Brenna into their own pack. I've always said that this forum is more family than classroom. I will miss you guys and gals almost as much as Brenna.
Ed, I can't thank you enough for your help and concern, too. I can't say anymore than I've said before...you know what's going on here. I'm sure time will find things get better. btw, I'm so glad Jeff's at home.
Sunday is my last day with Brenna...she's happily unaware. I am a mess.
