Well, that changes everything. Controversial opinion or not, prongs SHOULD NOT be used on inflatable dogs.
Clickers and treats ONLY.

This thread is killing me....from laughing so hard. The Op should try to hold back a 90lb GSD puppy with a flat coller who wanted to chase the cat, maybe she could take my torn ligaments in my neck and then tell me not to use a prong. It is so much more humane with the prong then without it is unbelievable.

Lorelei, it sounds like the prong is more humane for you

Ditto, except substitute 'my torn rotator cuff', in place of ligaments, and 'large, green iguana' in place of cat!

I just got up off the floor where I was rolling around laughing my fool head off. The OP is obviously either a troll or someone who's never trained any harder-tempered dog of any size or weight.
The TFT pup I'll be getting around mid-October (assuming all goes well with the current pregnancy) will probably weigh less than 6 lbs when full grown but she's going to be trained on a micro-pinch collar because for one thing they're safer for the dog, and for another she comes from a line of hard-headed terriers. Correct me if I'm wrong, but isn't it the force of the correction rather than the tool that makes the difference?

I may have posted this before, a couple years ago...but I got into Schutzhund when my daughter bought a GSD. My wife and I had trained dogs in CKC obedience for many years. Our current dog was 10 (a Golden) so anyway...our daughter goes to this class with her GSD and I tagged along. The trainer was not unlike the OP here (i.e., an idiot). When my daughter's GS, at 7-8 mos. started showing aggession to other dogs, this trainer said that corrections were "old fashioned" and instead, she should distract her dog with treats. Translation: reward aggressive behavior. Eventually even I was not able to handle this dog - and I'm a 300-lb guy.
We went along with this "new age" crap and the results were disastrous. Now, 2 yrs. later, the same dog has a Schutzhund BH and is doing well toward her "1" training. She does NOT attack other dogs any more. (Previously, we couldn't walk her anywhere on leash without her lunging and attacking everything on 4 legs). In fact, just last week this dog was out in the field behind our house romping and playing with 3 other dogs (we know them all).
What our daughter, my wife and I did was get a good Schutzhund trainer, a mess of Ed's videos, read virtually every article on his site, and then some. We also taped and watched every episode so far of "The Dog Whisperer". Now...not only is my daughter's dog well-behaved and lovely to have around, she is also far less nervous herself (the dog I mean). People think it's cruel to train a dog on a pinch? No. It's cruel to upset the pack order and lead them to believe that you are not in control.
...sorry, just had to vent a bit...it's a holiday here today! lol

Jillian ,
Can you give a little detail on your dog training experiance ?
Statements like this ;
I am completely confident that I can get a dog to do whatever I want on leash with a properly fitted buckle collar and no treats unless I'm teaching a trick.
are usually a dead give away that the person making it has very little training experiance with high drive dogs .

Just had to read this post because I just started to use a prong collar on my 70lb, 8 month old GSD.
What a great collar! It is night and day the difference it makes.
Properly fit, it sure as hell is like "power steering" for dogs!
I am no Cesar Millan, but with the prong collar, I sure feel like I could be.

It's 3 am here, and I've just read this thread - it's really cheered my night shift up!
The OP is 99% definately a troll. I can't belive ANYONE is that stupid to come on this site and pretend that a flat collar will sort out all dogs.
Still, it's brightened my night up - I wish I had a pint of whatever Steve is drinking!
