To eliminate your concern of the bones, you could be feeding a ground raw diet, either made yourself or bought commercially prepared.
Myself, I feed the adult dogs a small snack in the AM but get fed their full meal just once a day, and puppies 2-4x. I don't have a big concern of bloat with my own dog though, but I don't feed or water for at least 30 minutes prior or after activities. I believe a raw diet is much safer as far as bloat concerns, that coming from a Great Dane breeder I spoke with regarding bloat and kibble.
However, I am confused as far as the raised feeders for large/giant dogs. I have heard some people say they are better, yet this article says no.
Someone at a pet store told me it is bad for the dogs neck to have to bend down to eat, and that raised feeders are better for neck strain and eating air, or something.
Let me guess...I bet the pet store sold raised feeders too.

As far as the water is concerned, my vet told me not to let the dog gulp large amounts of water after exercise when they are panting heavily (more air into the gut) was the explanation. She has seen dogs bloat from water as well as food.
Since I've had large breeds and learned about bloat, I've fed two meals. Since I've converted to raw feeding in the last few years, I have kept up with the habit. If you use the search function on this site there is an example of a feeding schedule for an adult male/female (weight 65 lb.) and also for feeding pups and they feed the adults 2X a day and the pups 3X a day. If you buy any of the raw feeding books they also will suggest more than one meal a day.
I feed THK, ground up muscle meat/organ/bone, RMB's and supplements. I feed a smaller meal in the morning before I leave for work and a larger meal around 5 pm at night.
