Reining Horse fanatic here- I breed mainly AQHA and show in NRHA events. Trying to upload a few new videos to my site tonight, but lots of photos and a few videos already there. http://www.bigskyfarm.com
Well after 10 minutes it finally downloaded. Very funny! Luuuv my dial-up. The Internet is being taken over by video, you know. I have to really want to watch a video to even attempt the tortuous download wait.
Don't know how I missed this thread! I've had horses in the past, sold my last boy (TWH) 2 years ago. Haven't ridden in a year.
Will be adopting a mustang from BLM and using a combination of the pole method (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=W0G3wzVyR00) and SATS. Aiming for a solid trail mount but I could go many ways. Cowgirl at heart (team penning/sorting, cutting) but I love dressage. My new landlord is a dressage rider/instructor so I will be taking lessons from her.
Love QHs though, had a nice gelding. Had a Quarab stud, mustang gelding, and the Walker started out as a stud prospect but I gelded him at 3. I miss them all. Sigh! I need a horse!
Yes, you do Jennifer.
HEY! An idea... find a way to make it tax deductable...like, you need a horse to teach a dog some skill like, herding, or heeling while you are riding...
When a flower doesn't bloom, you fix the environment in which it grows, not the flower.
Alex, Marie and me at a trail ride Saturday. It was Alex's first trail ride and he rode by himself (up hills, down hill, through ditches and creeks, and over logs) for 3 1/2 hours and loved it. He has ridden about 3 times before that, probably 30 minutes total. I was very impressed! The pony is worth her weight in gold too. Gaucho is always good. http://i215.photobucket.com/albums/cc270/DebbieBruce/DSCF28472.jpg
Debbie! A Peruvian Paso stud? I love the spanish gaited breeds, there is a Paso Fino ranch just down the road from where I'm moving to (on Sunday the 7th!)
I wanted a Peruvian for a while but I could not find one in my price range without going to Peru to get one. Do you like the Mangalarga Marchador? I like the Peruvian and the Paso better but they are certainly gaining popularity and are a very flashy breed.

Geeze I miss my horses.
Life would be so dull without horses, and I find them very therapeutic.
I love the disposition of the Peruvians (I give riding lessons to kids and newbie adults on Gaucho).
From my experience Paso Finos can be a bit harder to train initially than the Peruvians but when they get over the hump they are as nice as the Peruvians.
I've only read one article on the Marchadors and I've never seen any in person so I can't say much about them.
One of these days I'm going to get some smooth gaited little pony/mini babies by Gaucho (have to do AI). It would make it so much easier for little kids to ride without getting bounced all over the place with a trotting pony.
I've been riding smooth gaited for so long it is an absolute beating for me to get on a trotting horse.
