I'm a certified teacher without a teaching job...well, in the traditional sense anyhow.
Essentially, my job is really complicated lol...I work with "kids" age 6 to 43 who have learning disabilities, autism, traumatic brain injury, etc. Most of them have problems with the way their eyes work...leading to my first job description "vision therapist". Secondly, they have a lot of problems with visualization and academics...that'd be the second job "teacher". I also work with kids who have been diagnosed with ADHD and help them to raise their ability to attend and deal with frustration...job description #3, maybe psychologist?
I work with some students one on one, some in small groups, some come to me for a school program. I develop my own programs, exercises, and curriculum. And I also act as secretary and office cleaner on occasion!
Mostly though, I work with really great kids and teach them how to learn in an easy, fun way. We have a blast
Oh, and yes, I talk to my kids the same way I talk to my dogs (or so I have been told by one of my best friends who works as my assistant) There is a lot in common with dog training and "kid" training...so really both help with the other...and I have built up an amazing amount of patience in either regard!

That's what I meant, haha. It's gonna be even worse if I manage to take over the dog trainer position. =D

Oh, and yes, I talk to my kids the same way I talk to my dogs
oh man, the first time a parent heard me tell a kid to sit....just "you, sit."
i got a glare that i will never forget.
i watched a parent(that same one, i think) plead with their child to stop climbing on the porch railing, and the kid was clearly not interested in listening.
her glare turned to jealousy when i told that child "josie, off."
and she just hopped down and started playing again.
don't get me wrong, i am very good to them, but i don't play around, as my grandma always says..."when I say jump, you say "how high"".
