Oooo... What a cute name! Will it be both fluffy and curly?!?
The ones that are both fluffy AND curly will cost extra. I'm thinking in the range of $2,000. But get one now because if I figure out a way to make TEACUP Malin-Doodles I'll be asking $5,000 a pop - er, PUP!
i just had to list this web site for you all to look at. it is a network of chihuahua breeders who have managed to create teenyweeny MERLES in the breed! the last time i looked at the site, about 2 yrs ago, the prices were MUCH MUCH higher---going up to 3K. anyhow, they are cute puppies but surely riddled with genetic probs, the vistims of another fad... and they take Paypal..
"I want my kids to experience the miracle of birth."
YIKES!! My kids are teenagers; that is the last thing I want them to experience.....I just can't see me as Nana quite yet.
Unfortunately, there are a lot of uninformed people who do not consider the consequences of a breeding beyond the litter they breed. People don't get it. In their defence......how many people have chosen to have children with their mate based on genetic pros and cons.
How do you make that point? I have never been able to dissuade some one from breeding their dog once they've made that decision no matter what I say.
You can't really. Because even if you insult the CRAP out of someone by telling them the truth - that their dog is faulty beyond belief and will not only not BETTER, but will WORSEN the gene pool - they don't see it. Just like they probably don't see their dog as fat either, even though most likely it is. I mean look, SHOW GSD breeders don't SEE their dog is crippled and ugly. So what are the odds JQP will see their "baby" is not breedworthy?
I think the most you can do is just not let your dog be the one they breed to.
I think anyone who's actually concerned about bettering a breed would not be in the position of planning to breed a pet.
Actually, Ed addresses this in one of his Q&As.
A woman emailed him about her neighbor, who wanted to breed her dog so that the kids could witness the "miracle of birth", and she was asking Ed if he had a video that could perhaps serve instead.
I think the "miracle of birth" thing is just an excuse. People want to breed Fluffy to Fido because they see dozens of 'em selling for $500+ (heck, $1,000+) on the internet every day.

My all-time favorite reason is:
"I want my kids to experience the miracle of birth."
And then to the shelter to witness the miracle of death?
I am not usually given enough time with an open ear to explain that that's what is set in motion when a breeding for the kids to "witness the miracle of birth" is done.
Wouldn't "the miracle of responsible human beings" be a great thing to witness?
"I want my kids to experience the miracle of birth."
Oh yeah? Well, make sure you trot them down to the local shelter so they can experience the harsh reality of an unwanted dog being put to death. Sheesh!
I'm embarrassed to say that the above quote is the reason my wife wanted to breed our Aussie. Now we would do it through the breeder where we bought the dog with her stud, but I just thought it was the goofiest of reasons.
That's why she was spayed 3 days ago...
There are three constants in life: Death, taxes and the love of a dog.
