EVERY responsible dog owner should have an interest in BSL.

BSL or other governmental knee-jerk reactions simply don't work. Here in the UK we had a similar uneducated reaction to two firearms-related tradegies over the last few years.

After the Hungerford incident, full-bore semi-auto rifles were banned outright.
The Dunblaine incident could have been prevented by local authorities doing their jobs properly, but they didn't and several innocents lost their lives. The governments reaction was to ban all handguns.
The demographics most affected by this were barristers, doctors and police officers.
Since the ban, gun crime has INCREASED dramatically.

Why? Because the government didn't tackle the REAL problem, which is importation and possession of ILLEGAL weapons, and effective sentencing of offenders.

BSL is a similar situation. BSL would only really affect responsible dog owners - the criminal element will continue to breed and own them anyway. The breed itself is largely irrelevant, but once it starts where will it stop?

The deep-rooted problem is the lack of conscience and moral fabric of some people. This cannot be amended through ill-conceived legislation. Unfortunately it's part of human nature to be self-destructive if we don't learn from our mistakes. The sad thing is, we blame other creatures, objects, or groups of people rather than looking closely at ourselves.

I'm in favour of Breed Specific Legislation - providing the breed is Homo Sapien.........
