Yep, she looks like a gsd to me too. I think most people when they think german shepherd they think of the classic Rin Tin Tin look or something. I always get asked what my dogs are, I guess because 2 are all black with one being a long hair on top of it and one black/red long hair that is X LARGE to boot. She looks like a great dog- have fun with her
Kathy, I agree with you as far as people and the classic GSDs. I had never seen a all black/mostly black Shepherd til I began to get into working lines.
I prefer sables, and all/mostly black GSD. For some reason I feel they would have more a working pedigree, than the more common black/tan Rin Tin Tin, American Shepherd....
Before we met, he had a very nice Rottie named Oprah (named by the previous owner... it fit, from what I hear, though).
I like Rotts, although I'll always have an initial suspicion whenever I meet a new one. My hand was mauled by a friend's Rott in High School. The dog was a total headcase, and I realize now everything I did that led to the attack, but there'll always be that slight irrational fear.
From what I hear, both of them, Oprah and K.C. (the GSD) were both uh... well-insulated.
Apparently Oprah was actually Oprah II. The first owner named her after a previous Rott of his. Whatever the case, my husband to this day would likely kick the crap out of the original owner. When he got Oprah at 6 months (original owner got rid of her because "she lacks defense") the pup was submissively peeing any time my husband spoke to her.
By 1 1/2, Oprah had her Brevet and was a perfectly civil dog. Bad owner, not bad dog.
With Andy being so exactly what I wanted, I would probably have a tough time being satisfied with another Rott. It's the one breed I can't help but pick apart as far as conformation. But I've learned never say never.
