Currently we have the standard '90s carpeting, that is going to be replaced with laminate and area rugs. My mom replaced her ugly orange shag carpeting with laminate, and the stuff that was underneath the carpet was enough to make me never want carpet again.

That was it for me too! And I would pull out the vacuum 3 times a week because of all of the allergy sufferers. I love our laminate flooring and tile.
