Because of what Keith said in his original post about the damage spreading and what Betty said about the staining. There was also something about the padding you have to use with a Berber but I don't remember what that was exactly.
My next house will have polished concrete floors throughout.
Though I've not had chewing or snagging issues with Berber, I live in the (rainy) NW and I'd rather take a Swiffer® to a concrete floor than bring out the vacuum so often.
We had berber with my Boxers in my old house. Never had any issues that I recall.
Currently we have the standard '90s carpeting, that is going to be replaced with laminate and area rugs.
My mom replaced her ugly orange shag carpeting with laminate, and the stuff that was underneath the carpet was enough to make me never want carpet again.
