Ok, last night at about 10:00 we left for the evet. There is a new girl that works there, that we luckily got, and I really like her. I won't hesitate to go there now.
They ran blood tests, and she thought the pup needed a blood transfusion b/c something was low. We didn't get home until 2:00 so I have no clue what it is right now. I'll post better later.
They gave me sub q fluids to take home and give to him.
They had no idea why he wouldn't eat thought b/c everything other than that one thing on the blood test was normal.
I'm thinking at this point he has just gotten so dehydrated, and is having a hard time recouping from it.
If he doesn't perk up any, by noon ish, we're going to take him to our vet...
I honestly just think he is that dehydrated. I hate to go and spend another $200 for someplace else to tell me the same thing. I don't know if they can do anything more for him than me right now, but I'd rather not take the chance.
Yes I mixed a little bit of honey into plain organic yogurt.
I haven't read the whole thread yet but I didn't see anyone address this.
NEVER FEED A BABY HONEY.
This goes for baby humans as well as baby dogs. Honey carries bacteria spores which in small numbers do not harm adults but CAN harm babies and infants (including dogs).
This morning the pup crashed. Right now he can not hold his head up; he vomited and head diarrhea, and just laid there. He is very very weak.
I took him to the vet clinic I usually go to at about 11:30. I had intended on doing x rays, but they didn't feel as if that was a priority there. The vet gave me an estimate hat included x rays and god knows what else, with a grand total of $831.95. After spending already $400, there was/is no way I can afford an additional $800. Instead I opted for the $200 option, which includes them keeping him over night on IV fluids, w/ antibiotics, and dextrose.
It's really hard and frustrating. It seems as if each vet I go to, they all have different ideas.
The one in TN thought he was secondary to dehydration or secondary to parasites. The ER vet told me she didn't know what was wrong but felt he needed a blood transfusion that would make him perk up. This last vet thinks it is a new strain of parvo.
After spending $600 on vet bills, I don't want to just give up. But I can't afford to keep paying for the vet bills at this rate.
I'm really upset and stressed about it right now. I want him to get better, but I just don't know what to do.
