Thanks, Connie. I used the baby food idea upon your recommendation last year. It worked for when I could get her to eat it. This was right after I started raw and after we got all that figured out, I introduced the vegs. In no time at all, she got really picky and wouldn't eat them. In the far recesses of my mind (what's left of it), I recalled that some don't feed vegs, so I let down on the job and would feed her some vegs from my plate. If she thinks I am eating it, she is more apt to eat it.
I will try again and try to find more variety. It is an excellent idea with the baby food and small dogs because it is cheap and you get small jars.
I didn't know until today that green tripe came in a can. I have asked for it at the store in the frozen section but they didn't know what I was talking about. I suppose I was at the wrong store.
At any rate, I will search for green tripe in a can and freeze small portions.
If I feed green tripe will that replace vegs?
Also, how often (per week) do you recommended vegs or green tripe?
And, lastly, will you please redo my amount of food for her? I am sure she is getting enough, but I could be over feeding sometimes as there are times she doesn't finish, so I skip the next meal. I feed two times per day.
She is now 10 pounds and about 20 months old.
I'll start giving her the berries, too as I almost always have them fresh or frozen.
Thanks.

Is her weight good? If it is, then the food amount is good.
This would be true of any healthy dog.

I'm not sure about 'good'.
She is so furry that is difficult to ascertain exactly except when she is wet.
She still have the narrowing where her "waist" is. From what I have read about this breed, she is a little on the small side (12 - 18 pounds) but she also stands a little shorter.
I think she may tend to go to the not really chunky, but you don't see any ribs.
That is why if she doesn't eat all of one meal, I skip the next.
Sometimes it's difficult to really tell if I am doing it right because sometimes she will get a little more meat in one meal and next a little more bone. I still have to be on constant poop watch so I know if it gets runny or too dry. I know have the poop pretty much balanced, but she leaves food or else takes it from the dish and carries it to a rug to play with later probably 3-4 times a week.

In terms of her pickiness, if it helps at all - ALL my dogs - all three of them - are CRAZY over tripe. I'd probably have to forcefeed Luc veggies but tripe - OH BOY. So your girl hopefully will be the same
(It's good they like tripe too because then they eat it quickly and the smell goes away faster. Dogs are weird.)
Teagan!

Yeah, I can't wait to find some of the tripe for her. She is picky over the vegs. But give her something really stinky and she buries her head in it. Lol.

I was telling someone about baby food the other day and couldn't remember where I heard it.
What would make me think that some cool, easy rawfeeding advice came from anywhere other than Connie's keyboard?
I didn't feed veggies for a long time. I've since changed my mind on the matter, and put them in when they are there. Which is way more often now that there is a baby here.
I over thought vegetables. So much that they annoyed me.
That was dumb of me. Instead of giving up, I shoulda' thought of an easier way. Baby food is a very easy way that requires very little thought.
For hearts, gizzards, ruminant stomachs, and non-ruminant stomachs I really like the term "muscular organ". Never heard it said that way before.
Nora, do you think your "deer buddy" would save the deer stomachs for you?
They are ruminants. To make it as easy as possible on your friend, I would buy an ice chest specifically for the deer tripe and leave it with them. That way they don't have to mess with that nasty stomach much. Just bring you the ice chest.
It stinks, but for the $$$, I say it is worth it to do a little work for free tripe.

Michael, thanks for the Wise suggestion. (I know, I know, I always have to do that.)
I am hoping they will save the stomach on the next one. I asked them to this time while telling them I was especially interested in the organs. I guess they didn't really associate a nasty, stinky stomach with my little Mimi, so I got the other stuff, but not the gut stuff. So, hopefully, next time. One dear deer tripe would probably be enough for my dog for a long, long time if I freeze it.
I have tons of old coolers (left over from beer drinking/camping days) and that is a wonderful idea. Supply the cooler and ice and then they will certainly remember. Especially if I put some beer in it, too.
Thanks.

Oh yeah. 1 will be a lot for your little dog. 2 or 3 could be fed pretty generously throughout the year.
Processing it isn't that bad if you just get it over with. Decide how much and how often you want to feed it, and cut it up accordingly.
You can feed a wittle bit everyday, or if your dog will tolerate it, feed a whole tripe meal a week. Sometimes more if you want, so long as it is part of the WHOLE VARIETY.
I personally would try to get in a little vegetable even if you are feeding tripe.
What kind of beer, and how much are we talking? I might need to make a trip.

Nicole is in northern Kentucky.
Have you looked into them for tripe?
If you can't find some locally, she does everything she can to get shipping rates as cheap as she can. You may be close enough to get it real cheap.
Sometimes, she has free shipping deals for bulk.

Uhmmmmm.....Cooler full? Of course with ice in the cooler.
Type, why, of course, the cheapest that can be purchased. What we kindly refer to as Old Pildukie. (yeah, pronounce it the way it's spelled)
