Put some part of the food into a dish and pour water over. The contact with the RMBs is the "baiting" factor.

It sounds like you did catch it quickly enough. I would want to do the tests too though.
Barbara, I would imagine the raw is fed in a bowl - that's normally how I give it to my guys. Sometimes I hand stuff directly to Luc while I'm preparing it in the kitchen since he eats wherever he wants in the house (the other two are fed in their crates).

Thank goodness.
And THANK YOU for all the excellent reminders for all of us (including those of us who live where heat is not even an issue -- we might think; who'd have picked WA as a heat-stroke area?).
What a terrible terrible experience and what a great outcome.
The high Sunday was 72 F. Monday (yesterday) was 74 F.
Definitely not what most people would think of as dangerous temps for a dog.
The temperature is really secondary to the dog's hydration and fitness. A dog (or HUMAN) can suffer a "heat" injury in the dead of winter, if it isn't properly hydrated and is exerting itself.

I am very glad Danke is okay. I am equally impressed with how succinctly you listed her pre and post behavior and physical attributes.
This will be a post I will reference to when talking to others and printing out for my self.
Thank you for taking the time to help all of us and reminding us to check for signs even if our dogs appear okay.
I am sorry Danke had to go this, and I am sorry you had to go through this, too.
How is your son taking this? Like a trooper?

I'm feeding Falcon in the garage - simply putting his dinner on the concrete. I have noticed he is drinking far less water since starting to eat raw... Pouring water on the floor doesn't seem like a great idea, am I missing how this is being done?
I give Danke her food in a steel bowl- granted, she usually pulls everything out, re-sorts it and eats it, but it arrived in a bowl.
Last night I put her meal in her bowl (it's a pretty large bowl, BTW) and poured two cups of water over the top, and gave it to her in her crate per usual.
She pulled everything out of the bowl, drank the water, and then sorted and consumed her dinner.
Between the salmon oil, blood and miscellanous raw fluids, she sucked the water down quicker'n me and Randy in the wine cellar.

Bah. I've had a LOT of practice writing After Action Reviews and Investigator's Reports.
And yes, as the summer goes on, I don't want any other owners and dogs to have to go through what we did- so I hope people will take something away from our experience that helps them avoid the same mistakes I made.
Poor Keith (my son) was taking a bath when I told Tim (my husband) that we needed to get Danke to the E-vet, NOW.
So, Keith got to go for a ride in his Pajamas.
He was worried about his dog, but he also survived the Great Colitis Scare of 2008, so he's kind of a pro at these situations now.
(He remembers the route to the E-vet better than either of his parents do, LOL.)

Yeah Mike, I noticed the same with my pup. A while back he got sick, he was pooping water basically. Needless to say after much help here on the forum and baited water he got better. I continued giving him baited water even after he recovered. Well it seems like he noticed himself that it felt better to be well hydrated. So now like you said, I have to make sure I keep his water bowl filled, because he has learned to maintain a higher level of hydration.
I'm glad to here Danke is doing good.

Glad to hear that all turned out well. It is not always just the air temp but also the combination of the heat & humidity that can be a factor in heat stroke. The heat index.
I have always fed raw to my dogs & always pour extra water over the top of the food before feeding it year round with some extra in the warmer weather. Dogs on a raw diet may tend to drink less water, due to the extra moisture in their food.(as opposed to feeding dry kibble. The decrease in water consumption is often more noticable to owners that switch their dogs from kibble to raw)). If you don't have a dog that tends to drink a good amount of water to keep hydrated, baiting the water is a good idea. Also keeping the outside water bowl cool or freequently refreshing so it is more inviting helps. When my dogs are out in the yard on warm days I am constantly changing the water for fresh & cooler water for them. They are inside in the hottest part of the day & out for short stretches when it is very hot. They enjoy coming back into the AC for a break to cool back down as do I.
