it's alot of rice and alot of wheat, beet pulp (cheap sugar)... It wouldn't make the grade around here but... you could be doing a lot worse with the fare from walmart. At least meat meal is in the food. In my eyes however it's a poor long term choice.
If by chance you have a costco and a costco membership their house brand is pretty decent in a pinch. It would be what I would use if money was tighter around here than it already is being less than $20 a bag locally. Right now I shop sales and normally manage to feed pretty decent quality at about $30 - $35 a bag instead of $50 +.
As others have pointed out you do get what you pay for. In some cases you also get what you don't pay for.

You could "get away with" (at least temporarily) using a cheaper kibble if you fed a decent quantity of raw. Shop sales, buy in bulk, and you will probably find that you're spending less by adding in the raw then you would buying a really good kibble.
I'm not saying that any of these kibbles are "good." I'm just saying that if you will not spend the extra money to feed a better kibble, you would be doing your dog a huge favor (and youself, since my guess is that your dog doesn't pay his own vet bills) by adding in some raw a few times per week, at least. Go to Walmart and buy a 10lb bag of chicken leg quarters for $5. Ask a local butcher for scraps. There are lots of inexpensive ways to give your dog better nutrition. At least if he gets SOME raw, you can feel like he's getting a little bit of decent nutrition.
I liken it to someone going from eating McDonald's every single day to only eating it 3x week, and the other 4 days, eating at a salad bar. Is that an IDEAL diet? Nope, but it's sure better than what they used to eat.
Or, Mandi, you could ditch the husband and feed whatever you want.
Check to see if there's a Nutrilife retailer near you. That, IMO, is probably the best kibble on the market in the same price range as the Sam's and Walmart and Costco brands. It's made from very fresh natural ingredients, and while it does have grain, it has no other nasty fillers or anything even bordering on dangerous, to my knowledge. I ordered a pallet once to get people I know feeding a better kibble. The best part is it is produced locally, and packaged in Wisconsin, so there's little chance of anything nasty getting in it between IL and Wisconsin.

How much do you pay, Mandi? How big of a bag?
It really wouldn't take that much more to find a specialty pet supply shop. They probably have lots of food for very comparable prices.
I would at least give it a shot before I ruled it out.

Michael-My husband bought this from Fred Meyer, and it was about $30, but he got it on special for $25. As I said he won't pay any more, he isn't "into" dogs. (I know someone will want to say something on that now!)
Jenni- "Or, Mandi, you could ditch the husband and feed whatever you want. " Believe me, that thought has crossed my mind before!! I did give Pearl chicken legs, when she was younger but was scared when she just wolfed them done without tasting them, so I stopped. I have given giblets, but that didn't get eaten, don't think I'd eat it either.
I have looked up the Chicken Soup location near me, I shall try to get some of that, thanks.
Happy Thanksgiving, everyone.

When I can't feed raw, I feed Eagle Pack Power Formula. It has corn, I know, but the protein/fat ratios are good for hard working dogs and both my dogs do really well on it. Costs about $40 for a 40 lb bag. I've tried really expensive food occasionally, like Timberwolf or Barking at the Moon, and even with the proper transition, my husky ended up with the runs on these foods. Of course I'd prefer raw, but sometimes it is unpractical, unfortunately. With Thanksgiving, the dogs will get lots of turkey and sweet potatoes. YUM!

Happy Thanksgiving, everyone.
Happy thanksgiving to you!
I think you will be pleased with the food, my sensitive tummy dog does well on it.
How are the dogs feeling, are they still having loose stools?
