... I'm starting to wonder if we have a Celiac dog that had a pancreatic incident. ... I'm about to take him in for the pancreatic blood test.
The reason I kept asking about palpation was that as far as I know, there is no specific blood test for pancreatitis* (although there have been advances). It's always, as far as I know, a partly clinical diagnosis. Yes, bloodwork is done, and can point to pancreatitis, but it still ends up being a largely clinical diagnosis, I think.
I'm going to find you a recap of the nature of diagnosing pancreatitis. Been there, and while the CBC and blood chemistry profile were certainly done (and I think can help to narrow down the diagnosis), it was the combination of tests that led to a diagnosis.
JMO.
*assuming "pancreatic incident" to mean acute pancreatitis

I hope that same as above. I wasn't thinking pancreatitis, I was referring to a long standing, chronic deficiency. Does that make a difference? I would have to do more homework...

Yes, it does. I was replying to "a pancreatic incident" and I think you were referring to pancreatic insufficiency. Both had been mentioned just prior.
there s no tripsin like immunoreactivity test here in leb. you can have an idea about EPI by checking enzyme lipase and amylase levels in a CBC (too low can indicate EPI) but if Sammie hasnt eaten in a while that might also cause a drop.
Thanks for asking!
Its nice to know that people care.
Eddie is eating now reliably. Woot!
He typically gets between 2 - 2.5 lbs of pork chops a day with 2 or 3 pork necks.
He eats much better if we go out and work..so I have to invent reasons to go to the store and such.
Sooo he has been eating regularly for 4 days now.
I almost started a thread....but I didn't want to till he had eaten well for a few days.
I need to call the vet and see what the next step is.
no vomit..no diarrhea....but, he has swung from slightly pudding like poo to sandy poo depending on the meat to pork neck ratio.
Most of the time it is normal log poo.
We are still working on finding a good balance.
To be honest..I just happy that calories are going in!!!!
We can balance it all out later.
I really want to go weigh him!
Its too soon, but still...lol
Thanks again!!!!

Gosh, you may have to ask your family to send a message to your internet friends about your surgery, how it went and how you are doing.
MAY THE FORCE BE WITH YOU!!!!!
