Peter, it seems that every time you post, you show the high level of lack of knowledge & ability that you NEED to HAVE to 'cope' with the type of dog that you are proposing to get. I only hope that as Aaron stated, someone else doesn't suffer the consequences of that lack of knowledge. I think that ANY breeder that would place a dutchie pup with an owner with your lack of skills is just as responsible as you when the whole thing backfires.
It makes me sick when on a weekly basis(2 yesterday) there are GSDs listed for rehoming because the owners can't handle the dogs that they get. Go figure, it almost always seems to be that the dogs are between a year & 2+ years old, when the dogs start showing some signs of maturity coming & start testing the owners who are clueless. Recently there seems to be many of them that are intact which often exasperates the problems for the clueless owners. I have contacted numerous ads hoping to help rehome these dogs in appropriate homes. But of course they want $$$s for these dog. I am sure, & know for a fact via the owners, that most of the breeders are BYB & don't want anything to do with the dogs once they are sold as pups. SAD.
One lady told me that they got the dog for a guard dog, but he is a nice dog & they didn't want to make him MEAN so they didn't want to do that with him. But didn't have anyone that was going to help them with this 'mean' training. Also that he is more dog then they can handle now & need to find a new home for him ASAP. 13mo intact male. GEEEZZZEEEEEE go figure.
- i have no interest in competition obedience, i have been to some shows as a spectator and thought it was pointless & degrading to the dog, the dogs looked as sad as their owners/handlers - yuck to competition obedience and the show ring, not buying into that world never, its crueler to a dog than hunting wild dangerous game (my opinion).
5. what on earth is a "UberHunds" should i google that?
6. when i mentioned consequences i implied dog and me as one thing.
there you have it - i am listening and am not a knuckle-head, have put the the PPD adventure on ice for minimum 2/3 years untill adequetly prepared and skilled if ever. thats as responsible dog owner as it gets.
UberHund is my small joke at Friedrich Nietzsche's Übermensch, SuperMan. ÜberHunden, SuperDogs
As for the obedience training and competition I would suggest going to a SchutzHund event, everyone I've been too and everyone I've seen most all the dogs are fired up and want to do it. I think the judges knock off points for lack of enthusiasm.
Take a few moments to look at these Obed vids I've done with my puppy and if she isn't happy then Popeye is a punk.
She's nothing special except to me and my family and I've seen better dogs then her at the club, the point I'm making isyou can do some nice stuff if you make the right choice of dog
of the litter she came from she was "mild" meaning she just wanted to play and not rip my pants up, one of the males did a full attack on my ankle and humped my shoe. as an inexperienced trainer I didn't want to deal with rank issues and handler aggression. Her father would put teeth on his owner when he didn't get his way ie the bite on the decoy or got an unfair correction. It was like "I'm gonna bite somthin dammit"
Dennis, that video almost looks like formal obedience. Yuck. Don't you find it pointless and degrading? Your dogs must be miserable. Why would you use something like that to gain control of your dog??
What world are you from???? Did I see you in Best in Show??
